Patch 4.0.3a, The Shattering, likely hitting live servers tomorrow

The Shattering patch will include all the old-world changes coming with Cataclysm, including changes to the Loremaster and Explorer achievements to match, the removal of Zul'Gurub, a reduction in the amount of experience required to level from 70 to 80, and the addition of all of the new race/class combinations. Worgen and goblins will still have to wait for Cataclysm itself, of course. If you don't plan to do any raiding or dailies in Northrend in the next couple weeks on any of your characters, you may also want to move your character to Stormwind or Orgrimmar before the servers go down, as rumor has it that the portals in Dalaran are going away with this patch.

Nine's Plan.... I don't get it. (Not trolling, I really don't understand, is that a pun, or a reference to something?)

There is an old B-flick, Sci-Fi, called "Plan Nine From Outer Space." It is generally considered one of the worst sci-fi movies of all time, but is a cult classic at the same time. Personally, I have never seen more that a few stills from it, and those were enough to keep me away.
So, in a way, I guess I was working on Nine's Plan FOR Outer Space.
Daedalus Nov 22nd 2010 11:45AM
Plan Nine from outer space. Quite possibly the very worst movie from one of the very worst directors of all time, Ed Wood.
Absolutely hilarious to watch, though. You can download the whole movie, with commentary track, at Rifftrax...
Skeinchug Nov 22nd 2010 11:53AM
@Daedalus: That's debatable. I think Manos: The Hands of Fate (It's on youtube) is the worst movie ever made. Plan Nine was bad but it had a plot you could follow. Speaking of plot, The Starfighters is a movie about some Air Force guys that has a sub-plot but no main plot.
Daedalus Nov 22nd 2010 12:43PM
Oh, yes, sorry if I wasn't clear; I simply meant that Plan Nine was likely the lowest point of Wood's particular oeuvre, and that Wood was among the worst directors in film history. I wasn't trying to make a claim that it was the absolute nadir of filmmaking...
Also: Manos the Hands of Fate and The Starfighters? Seems I'm not the only MSTie perusing the boards. :)

You're not, I would have commented earlier, but the pizza delivery guy from Torgos' was at the door.

Watch Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" staring Johnny Depp. Unlike the actual "Plan Nine from Outerspace" its quite good. One of the duo's best.

Worst movie ever? You've never seen The Room, have you?
Marshal Nov 22nd 2010 11:20AM
Well this will make raiding last few attempts at ICC a bit more...frustrating?. We'll have to rely on guild Mages to port us quickly to Northrend. But also good to the AT tabard.
Regardless, bring on The Shattering!
Pyromelter Nov 22nd 2010 11:38AM
Assuming you're raiding with mostly mains in your guild, wouldn't most of them have the Tabard of the Argent Tournament to port them there?
Also, portals going away sucks for everyone, everywhere. I still dislike it greatly. And it still doesn't make any sense, lore-wise anyway (at least from Dalaran; it makes more sense lore-wise to remove them from Shattrath).
Artificial Nov 22nd 2010 4:52PM
Have you seen the money mages can make from selling ports? This in a world that has goblin mages. There's no possible lore justification for a lack of portal service in all the major cities. Goblins don't like money anymore? Yah, sure...
Prissa Nov 22nd 2010 4:56PM
I wouldn't make that assumption at all. Not all of us have the patience to do dailies for months on end like that to get the right standing and then the stupid currency for a tabard on top of all those pets and mounts that you want. Or you could be like my mage who became a crusader, and then lost it all when she faction changed. So no, not everyone has an AT tabard.

Could be time to invest in the Kirin Tor ring that ports you to Dalaran. I have been enjoying mine for months now!

this music comes my mind right now (whenever im in stormwind) :
"Majora's Mask : final day"

Durinthal Nov 22nd 2010 1:12PM
That music *still* makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
smashman Nov 22nd 2010 1:21PM
I found an image of "Dawn of the Final Day, 24 hours remain" but with the wow emblem on top this morning and I made it my background.
I can't wait any longer. XD

My guildies are all going to Auberdine to ride out the Shattering with a End Of The World party. I can't think of a better place to watch the doom come upon us. Good beer and seafood is locally available!
Pyromelter Nov 22nd 2010 11:41AM
My one alliance character is parked at Auberdine. I'm going to try to find the coordinates in the Barrens where the shattering will blow that place up for at least one of my alts. And probably also park someone at the bottom of thousand needles. I didn't raise an army of heroes who have defeated some of Azeroth's biggest bads, just so they can hide in the comfort of a home city. I imagine them helping to evacuate the local npc civillians, vendors, flghtmasters, innkeepers, trainers, questgivers. And I'll probably park my warrior next to Mankrik, just for the lulz too :)
Kuro Nov 22nd 2010 1:41PM
Setting a lowbie druid's hearth to Camp Taurajo just to see what'll happen. Might park a few of my other toons in interesting spots. Don't want to have to send a box full of tickets into the GM's to get that 'army of heroes' unstuck -- that would be a lil embarassing.
Gonna keep most of mine in Dal till Cata though.. still doing some ICC and northrend content.
brammage Nov 22nd 2010 11:24AM
I had heard that there would be some new portals in old world cities when the Dalaran and Shattrath portals went away. Any details on this?
