It's really happening. Wrath of the Lich King is drawing to a close, and the Cataclysm is nearly upon the world of Azeroth. Wowcrendor has been an integral part of the Wrath experience for many of us. That makes sense, given that it was during this expansion that Wowcrendor really built his fame in the community.
It's only appropriate that the master of sarcastic commentary bring us a serious video to send Wrath off to the expansion set in the sky. This is World of Warcraft: Farewell Northrend by Wowcrendor. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
Wow... I wasn't feeling nostalgic about Northrend until now. In all the excitement I had forgotten just how much fun I had in Northrend. Thanks for the reminder. ;)
Second that! Watching that reminded my about how i felt levelling my first toon through to 80, taking in all Northrend, the sites, the details, the little things, the music. This living world world blew me away on my first toon. By the time you're on your 3rd or 4th 80, you're just trying to power through it ASAP, and you forget to appreciate everything that Blizzard put into Northrend. This took me back. Great video! Thanks for reminding me of how freaking fantastic Northrend was, it's hugely appreciated!
Thank you, wowcrendor, for putting that together for us. It was a nice trip down memory lane. We've been doing something similar in our guild, having a guild-wide screenshot contest. The aim is to record scenes of old Azeroth before it all changes forever. Some of the shots the guildies have been sending in are just, no pun intended, wow. It will be nice in a year or so to have the ability to "go back in time", as it were, and see what we all started with.
Wow - two years gone by, and the memories, all the memories. The wins, the losses, the triumphs, the tragedies, wipes and boss-kills, new and old allies and enemies, the comedies and errors, bugged quests and mechanics, OP moments, moments of despair. Two Blizzcons, new guildies, drama, broken friendships, new relationships, the fun discoveries in and out of game, large and small.
Those two years felt fairly boring to me. I leveled up to 80 fairly fast, started doing heroics and gearing the old-fashion way which I'll admit that part was quite fun. I remember running AN? OK? like once a day, everyday for like 2 weeks before I got my trinket drop and there were several other instances were I just needed that 1 ilvl 200 purple drop :D from the final boss no less.
It was pretty fun running Naxaramas 'remake' for the first time. My guild wasn't too serious back then and I was in a casual guild. We only cleared like 1 quarter and cleared the first bosses of a few other quarters. Took us like a month to gear-up enough to make up for our lack of skill so we could clear all of naxx and get our Kel'Thuzzad kill. 5 months later, naxx was mighty boring while we waiting unhapppily for ANY new content. 20 Kul Thuzad kills, 20 OS kills and nothing to do when not spending 4 hours a week raiding. :(. 8 monts later we were so bored.
Wotlk was fun for me but it lacked far far too much content. After Ulduaar, we got another 2-3 months of entertainment, then nerfing came out making the content easier and easier and easier(woo?). Only to find our, gear that was hard-earned would be obtainable by doing 'super-easy-mode heroics'. ... and ToC came out which was extremely easy to do. Another 4 months of waiting then weh ave ICC which was fun for a good 4 months followed by 8 months of wondering WTH was going to come after ICC as our boss kill numbers were starting to reach mid-double digits.
Here's hoping Cataclsym is more like BC with lots of raids and fairly regular content rather than content once a 'year' and gear-for-free philosophy. I doubt it, but, I'm hopeful. At the very least, we get to do new dungeons, new roics, new raids for the next 6 months. I can't wait to experience the new content since Wow has been so content-starved the last 6 months or so.
Since the only thing you level a character for is to raid, I think you're going to be disappointed again. But hey you can always drag out old cliches about free gear and easy content instead of find new things to do, right?
It sounds to me like you weren't doing hard modes. To complain about free gear and lack of content but not do hard modes.... If I weren't doing hard modes I certainly wouldn't be yearning for a return to bc philosophy.
Naxx was an ok instance on reg mode. Problem was that it didn't have hard modes. Toss out some of the heroic settings in there and suddenly it fills the gap to Ulduar MUCH better than it did. It felt to me at the time like ToC came out a little too soon after Ulduar and the gap from ToC to ICC was too long. Basically Ulduar -> ICC was the right time, but they got the intermediate step in the wrong place. ICC was obviously out for too long before Cataclysm. I have to wonder if that was Blizzard realizing they couldn't meet the production cycles they had hoped for long term, or if it was just a matter of the Azeroth revamp being MASSIVE.

tell me about it. I saw the "Big Tongue" Oracles just sitting there wondering where I had gone... they had no one to tell their troubles to.
After all those weeks of paying for rotten eggs, I will actually miss the little hoppers.
*sigh*
(I never thought I would).

I love doing Wintergrasp with the sound effects off and this music cranked. It's a very surreal feeling.
itsthebrent Nov 22nd 2010 12:58PM
Absolutely. I think the Wintergrasp music may be the thing I miss most about Northrend. The drums, the horns.. everything. That melody is amazing.
Samutz Nov 22nd 2010 12:15PM
Don't worry. You'll be seeing it plenty with all those new alts you'll be rolling.

The Howling Fjord music always gets me. There is something magical about uilleann pipes.
