It's really happening. Wrath of the Lich King is drawing to a close, and the Cataclysm is nearly upon the world of Azeroth. Wowcrendor has been an integral part of the Wrath experience for many of us. That makes sense, given that it was during this expansion that Wowcrendor really built his fame in the community.
It's only appropriate that the master of sarcastic commentary bring us a serious video to send Wrath off to the expansion set in the sky. This is World of Warcraft: Farewell Northrend by Wowcrendor. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
This was a really nice reminder of the excellent work that was done for Wrath. Though I have to admit I was kind of hoping at the very end Deathwing would be sitting there being forced to listen to "Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!" :)
I remember when I first put a step in Howling Fjord it was AWESOME the new quest the new continent, evrything was awesome and beautiful, I enjoyed evry zone in NorthRend and by watching this video it made me remind that feeling and now i feel nostalgic for it Yeah i got to 80 and spend most of the time in Dalaran, and almost forgot all the beutiful places out there, thank you for the vid =)
As a "Wrath Baby" it seems surreal that 2 years have gone by. I started playing WoW on the recommendation of a co-worker that sent me a RAF trial and explained that yes, I could finally kill Arthas. Fast forward two years and it finally struck me after watching this video that the War in Northrend is over. We won. But in winning we say goodbye to the quests, the characters and the new races that made Northrend the epic journey that it was. I remember fondly, as most of you likely do, the first trip to Northrend and being like "And so it begins...". I plan to get back to the Old World the old way...flying home, just as I flew there.
I am a Wrath Baby too, though I joined only last year. It's weird to think time has gone by so fast...
Now I am a officer, a GM, and a repected member of my server. It's just weird to think about how much has changed. And Northrend and Arthas was the setting I entered into.
and yknow, for all his sarcasm and silliness, kudos to crendor for such a fitting tribute; the guy has a pretty good eye and a knack for fitting stuff together. he did a similar tribute piece a short while back, which was showcased on the 03MAY moviewatch of this year:
to be honest, i'm pretty lukewarm about his silly movies...they can be hit or miss. but serious ones like this and the one linked above? a hit every time!
Oh I won't forget Northrend, it's a beautiful place and so is Outland.
People instead of idling around in your Capital cities with nothing to do, pestering Trade or General, grab your Griphon or Wyvern and take a ride across the lands of Northrend or Outlands, I hear the Borean Tundra is pretty beautiful when you're not rushing through it to get a quest done. ;]
For myself, sometimes when I just needed to relax and didn't feel like running around in Assassins Creed killing random roof guards, I'd pop flight form and just fly around northrend. Outlands had some nice stuff, but Northrend just seemed "better" for viewing.
Northrend was a really wonderful continent, full of lore, geographical beauty, creatures. It saddens me not the fact that it ends, but the fact that it had A LOT of potential game play wise. We had only 2 descent raids, Lich Kings story was very lackluster. We go to north rend, we battle at the wrath gate, we then fight in coliseum and Icecrown citadel here we go! No Azjol Nerub as a zone, Anub'Arak was planned to be a much bigger character, a character with whom we could interact. No troll raid. I don't know, in comparison with TBC, TBC wins hands down.
I really our next expansion after cataclysm will revamp Outland and Northrend, to finally uncover all secrets and unanswered questions (Bolvar?)
This is a fantastic and gorgeous piece of work....props to whoever put it together...makes you realize all over again what a sumptuous and immersive experience it's been in Northrend.
I think Wowcrendor's favorite zone must have been Howling Fjord. I think he spent the most time in that zone before moving on to the other zones. However, to each his own.
Both Outlands and Northrend really made me love the game. The early starting zones I was more interested in the class and learning how to play it rather than the actual experience of the quests or areas. When I hit Outlands for the first time...everything changed.
The first time I hit Northrend, even the instinct in the back of my head that said "Ignore quest text; ignore scenery; kill everything and get to 80," I just...couldn't hold back. Even with those who hated the Borean Tundra, everything about that place changed how I viewed the rest of my WoW career. It was there I discovered life in this game besides running around killing things; it was there that friendships were born, and enemies were forged.
But ah...Storm Peaks...that had to be my favorite zone out of all of Northrend. Every other zone had its affair with me, but Storm Peaks will always have my heart. I remember talking in guild chat one night while on my Nether-Drake just staring up at the sky. At some point, everyone got offline, and I stayed on another hour just staring. Blizzard did wonders with that zone...the music, the snow, the sky...everything just said "Old forgotten ruins...full of wonder and peril."
Sigh...nostalgia hit me hard with this video...the elemental invasion and Pilgrim's Bounty, along with the ability to FINALLY change my shaman into a dwarf after the Shattering...I had forgotten to pay homage to my Northrend. If anyone wants to meet up, I will be in Storm Peaks probably until Cataclysm starts. It is a fitting place to be right before heading off to war against our unknown new enemy. (BTW: Norgannon is the server.)
I remember being in Storm Peaks and first discovering Thunderfall and being blown away! The music paired with the frozen scene of dwarfs on bears fighting giants, frozen mid-fight.. I think i spent at least an hour there just staring at the snow coming down and the epic battle scene.

Starting at 1:45, anyone know the name of that song from Wintergrasp? It's so damn serene and pretty...
Matthew Nov 22nd 2010 5:01PM
I never understood why such a calm song existed in Wintergrasp.

I don't know either, but I love it. One of my favorite Northrend melodies.

Bolvar's been answered, dude. He's sort of icy to dull the pain, while also being hot to relax it away.
