One of the zones I'll miss most in its classic form is Ashenvale. It may not have had a lot of direct sunlight under the canopy of that lush forest but to me it remains one of the most beautiful zones. I haven't seen any screenshots from the beta so I'm not entirely sure just how much it's changed aesthetically.

You don't miss the water untill the well runs dry..
Bookmarked.

With thanks to those who blew the wind
and those who sailed the ship,
We sailed it tight against the tide
and I shall be forever in your debt.

T.T Farewell original Azeroth... We all shall both miss and rejoice with the fact you are gone. Because now we can fly and it won't take 3 hours to get across continents. But miss you cause of the fact we all started in you. Sad day and happy day...

had a quick blast through some of the 'old' areas last night taking screen grabs as i went
busuan Nov 23rd 2010 12:52PM
Even after we have killed Deathwing, Good Old Azeroth would not come back.
...
But good news, all elves, now you have someone to share the blame for breaking up the continent.

Any chance to make this collection downloadable?
Sicadastra Nov 23rd 2010 12:53PM
Last thing I did last night: turn graphics way up, disable name text and plates, hide my UI, and take the cross-continent flights for Kal and EK. Took pictures along the way.

So many memories...

When I leveled my latest alt, I made sure to slow down and smell the flowers while questing. I wanted to soak in all that would be changing. I'm just glad I had the chance to experience it. I often wish that of vanilla WoW since I didn't start playing until shortly before BC. To see what WoW used to be and be able to see what it has become. It's pretty amazing.

Brings back memories of my first original trip through Azeroth 5 years ago back in Vanilla. the first time I climbed the path up to Ironforge and turned around and marveled at the vista of Dun Morogh below. Or the first time I wandered through the Thousand Needles and was amazed at the giant rocks, the crazy high lift, and the Goblin racetrack (although I was bummed you couldn't actually race...)
Ahhh memories. I recently got Explorer on my rogue and it was neat visiting some of these zones that I literally hadn't been to in years. I can't wait to go exploring again to see all the new changes!

It may seem trivial compared to the major changes, but I'll miss the old maps a little bit. I know the new style is more functional and informative. However, the vanilla maps felt like, well, maps. They weren't exact representations, so it was cool when you "discovered" something that wasn't listed or shown.

My companion and I spent all night touring the old world. You will be missed, Azeroth.
Braundo Nov 23rd 2010 1:01PM
I'm not all that interested in paging through these now, but I know I definitely will want to revisit these in a year or two when all of these places seem like a distant memory. Thanks a lot for going through the effort to collect all of these!
Pentyn Nov 23rd 2010 1:01PM
I'm going to miss the old world too, but am extremely excited for all the changes. Even tho the maintenance has been extended, i think it's worth the wait. I tried logging in (cause i'm impatient :O) and just watching the movie after you log in and see the new login screen is crazy exciting. Just a few more hours!!!!!!

I thought I'd visit Southshore last night, one last time.
So I logged on my character closest to Southshore, a lvl 36 Warrior. On the taxi ride there I was thinking that I'd visit all the NPCs, especially Marshal Redpath, and do whatever quests were in the area I hadn't done. Maybe doing some fishing off the dock, or have a pint at the inn.
However, as soon as I landed I was instantly 1-shot and corpse camped by one of the several lvl 80 Horde camping the entire town. At first I was really frustrated that they ruined my goodbye, but then I thought.... "No, this is good. Better to remember Southshore the way it truly was".
