Jessica Sellers no longer accepts
Ink of the Sea for lower-level inks. If you want to make, say, the
Glyph of Mage Armor, you'll need to mill Outland herbs to be able to make
Ethereal Ink. Speaking of that glyph, it's been uncraftable since 4.0.1 and is now available on the trainer. It's going to be a pain to collect mats to make it, however. Still, as one of the more desirable glyphs for mages, it's likely to find buyers, even if
Outland herbs are expensive and hard to find.
So what is Jessica looking for these days? Why, nothing other than
Blackfallow Ink! It's not yet available in game from any source, so until Dec. 7 when
Cataclysm launches. A word to the wise: if you have an herbalist and want to spend a few weeks making cash hand over fist, farm for old-world herbs. Check the "milled from" tab on the following pigments to get a hit list:
It's a little unfortunate that all these new players who are coming back are going to have to deal with low supply and weird pricing on the glyphs they probably want to try out; however, it's always possible that Blizzard will revert Jessica to her previous state of accepting Northrend inks.

Makes me glad I turned a bunch of my Ink of the Sea into these other inks yesterday. How did this get missed? And is there a new vendor in Org or is everyone going to have to make a special trip to Northrend every time they want to exchange inks?
jonas Nov 23rd 2010 8:18PM
I did the same - turned about 2000 inks of the sea into other stuff.
Lhock Nov 23rd 2010 8:42PM
I don't think it got missed, I think a lot of people purposely didn't say anything hoping to get the 1 up on everyone else. I know I did for sure. I turned in over 7000 ink of the sea into other inks yesterday. :)

You would think that they would just leave Miss Sellars the way she was... and add new ink traders to the capital cities who trade for Blackfallow Ink...
Finnicks Nov 23rd 2010 9:50PM
This feels just like the Heirloom situation... updating the prices to Cataclysm levels for things... when Cataclysm isn't out yet.
Why are heirlooms already 2k+ JP?
Why do ink traders already require Ink of the Sea?

Why is the bottom half copied?

Unless of course you knew this was coming and bought a wide selection of ink and glyphs monday night :P

I took all my glyphs off the AH yesterday, and will probably be listing them 2-3x higher than I have been due to the increased difficulty/rarity of glyphs for the next two weeks.
Herbalists, prepare to get rich.

What makes outland or old world herbs hard to gather? I no understand. Just. . go there. No one else is picking them. (yet)
wutsconflag Nov 23rd 2010 8:30PM
Oh, they will be ... they ... will ... be ...
Sterb Nov 23rd 2010 8:30PM
Well, there are no more portals in Shat or Dalaran so getting around takes a bit longer.
Ametrine Nov 23rd 2010 8:31PM
That's exactly why they're hard to gather - nobody wants to expend any effort to farm anything besides daily quests anymore.
Asaron Nov 24th 2010 5:24AM
They aren't harder to gather, not at all. Or at least they wont be when we can fly all over.
But a typical glyph seller does not gather, they buy. Older herbs from lands less travelled are generally in much lower supply.
I have many inks of the sea, and many northrend herbs. I'll obviously be able to resume the trade with Cataclysm herbs, but the launch of the expansion is a VERY lucrative time to sell glyphs, and with so many people blocked out it just got a whole lot better for those crafty buggers that kept it secret!

Wait, Outland herbs are hard to find? I remember when I was leveling through Outland having gotten so many stacks of felweed and similar that I ended up with several spare stacks of nether pigments once I'd leveled inscription through the outland recipes. And that was on a land mount. Zangarmarsh is chock full of felweed if you want to farm it, and I recall Nagrand being reasonable too. It'd be even easier on a fast flying mount.
Admittedly this was mid-Wrath (around 3.1-3.2) so there was likely less people in those zones. But it's not like the herbs were that scarce, especially in comparison to outland mining nodes.

Can someone confirm whether this was like this on the 4.0.3a PTR and/or the Cata beta? Or did it come out of the blue?
Given a few of the posts already, it appears to have been a known change... I suspected this change may be coming and asked someone on the Cata beta yesterday, and he told me Jessica Sellers was still accepting Ink of the Sea trade ins..... I'm not a fan of getting blindsided.
taylory Nov 23rd 2010 10:12PM
I agree. Not only that, but I've sent this question to the Queue before and it went unanswered. In fact, every source of info I've checked has made no mention of this change, as if it was all designed to screw over my profits...
It's a conspiracy, I tell you!
Ice Nov 24th 2010 3:47AM
There was no PTR on 4.0.3a.
Yes, I know what you are thinking now "But good sir, there WAS ptr up for this patch heres link to this fine article about it".
Actually, it wasnt PTR in PTR sense. It was more of "sneak peek" and to get devs some numbers they might tweak or fix for next 2 weeks. I mean honestly, it was up for week. No "major" bugfixes are done in week, maybe small hotfixes. I dont even think there was patch for this PTR build AT ALL.
They did it because they felt need they had to put it to "ptr phase" before going live.
Why it wasnt PTR then you might ask?
First of all, there was no feedback tool. You know, the most important part of the PTR and all that.
It really felt that "this is final but we are gonna put it thro PTR phase anyway lets rely on all the data we got from beta".
And even if there was feedback for this change, I doubt anyone would actually notice since they didnt want to be stuck in dalaran and just go to old world asap.
Saelle Nov 24th 2010 8:35AM
This change has been on the beta since August and was on the 4.0.3a on the PTR for the short time it was up. There's been a discussion thread on the "Just my two copper" Inscription forum about this change for a long time.
I want to thank Basil not spilling the beans on this one until it was too late. This is going to make me a ton of money as I'm continually buying/milling all the low level herbs and driving the prices even higher. Most of my competition isn't even posting these glyphs right now because they can't get enough supply. It's too bad everyone is getting the ability to fly in two weeks or it would be even better.
