Patch 4.0.3a: What's in The Shattering, what's not

With Patch 4.0.3a, The Shattering, just around the corner, people are unsure exactly what this means. Will goblins and worgen be available? Will we be able to fly in Azeroth? Will we be able to do anything with the new race/class combinations? Fear not -- WoW Insider has a list of what you can expect to see in the upcoming patch and what won't be found till Dec. 7 and Cataclysm's launch.
What's in The Shattering
What's in The Shattering
- Hearthstone set to Dalaran? Better change that -- Dalaran and Shattrath portals will be removed once the patch hits.
- In place of the handy portals in Dalaran, you'll find a series of equally handy class trainers.
- The new race/class combinations will be playable, with the exception of goblins and worgen.
- If you're wondering why we spent all that time taking back Echo Isles and Gnomeregan, you'll be able to see the fruits of your labors in 4.0.3a, where both the trolls and the gnomes have their brand new starting zones.
- Speaking of zone changes, all level 1 to 60 zones will be forever changed, and as a result, all zones will have fully playable content.
- Fancy new Cataclysm loading screens will be available for all new zones. Be sure to check out the new Northrend loading screen, while you're at it.
- Did you like the new Cataclysm cinematic? Good, because it'll be viewable as of Patch 4.0.3.
- How long have you had your in-game music muted? Now would be a good time to crank it up again, as the new Cataclysm music for all new zones will be implemented.
- The new Cataclysm login screen featuring Deathwing in all his glory above a fiery version of Stormwind will also be available.
- Just in case you haven't gotten exalted with all your home factions, City Quartermasters will be available, along with reputation tabards for each faction.
- A host of bug fixes will be included with this patch.
- New class balancing mechanics and fixes will be included, as well.
- Speaking of classes, if you are a druid, priest, paladin, or shaman, your talent trees will be reset.
- The amount of experience required to gain levels from 71 through 80 will be reduced by 20 percent. Now's a good time to get the rest of those alts to 80!
- New tamable hunter pets, including monkeys, foxes, dogs, and beetles, will be included, as well as new skins for existing pet classes.
What's not in yet
- Want to create a goblin or worgen? You'll have to wait until Dec. 7 for that.
- The worgen and goblin starting zones will not be included until you upgrade to the expansion.
- The new archaeology profession will not be released until Cataclysm's launch.
- You will not be able to level your professions to the next rank (Illustrious Grand Master) until Cataclysm's launch.
- Guild leveling will not be introduced until the expansion's release.
- Similarly, Guild Achievements will not be available until Dec. 7.
- Want to fly in old-world Azeroth? You're going to have to wait until the official release for that one. The Flight Master's License is only available to those who have purchased Cataclysm.
- All new level 80+ zones, including Hyjal, Vash'jir, Uldum, and the Twilight Highlands will not be available for play until Cataclysm's release.

Your answer is neither simple nor correct. There have been no other updates on what titles will become unavailable except the "undying" achievements which require completing content without dying.
Nyold Nov 23rd 2010 9:56AM
not to be nitpicky, but TOGC especially at Anubarak will be much harder in Phase 3 simply because our health levels are higher compared to our dps.
netokituco Nov 23rd 2010 9:58AM
Sorry weres the word "titles" in my post?
A small list off achievments that so far were already out from beta:
The Undying
The Immortal
He Feeds On Your Tears (10 player)
He Feeds On Your Tears (25 player)
Champion of Ulduar
Conqueror of Ulduar
A Tribute to Skill (10 player)
A Tribute to Mad Skill (10 player)
A Tribute to Insanity (10 player)
A Tribute to Dedicated Insanity
A Tribute to Skill (25 player)
A Tribute to Mad Skill (25 player)

So is the wolf mount from the end of ToGc going to gone as well? or is the tribute run still available even if you no longer get an achievment for it?
Sure would be nice if Blizz let us know this kind of stuff.

Learn to research before you complain. From the following post by Lyllira, dated 15 Oct and relinked by MMO-C a few times since...
http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/22379/mounts-and-items-removed-in-403
"Crusader's White/Black Warhorse and Swift Alliance Steed/Swift Horde Wolf
As the attempt-based tribute system is being removed from Heroic Trial of the Crusader, the Argent Crusade Tribute Chest will no longer spawn, and these mounts will no longer be obtainable."
If you missed out, blame yourself.

New launcher is active with the Deathwing cinematic. Thank god I setup my home system so I can remote in from work. :D
Firestyle Nov 23rd 2010 9:41AM
Does this mean Worgen faction rep and tabard is available based on the Worgen starting zone and leveling quests, and I can get cracking on getting this to exalted tonight?
Dru Nov 23rd 2010 9:43AM
Are we going to be able to visit the new Goblins city? Is that phased content for 80's or is it not going to be available until we buy the expansion somehow? Obviously we can't roll a goblin, but can we visit the new capital? What about for the Worgen?
Tbah Nov 23rd 2010 11:48AM
"The worgen and goblin starting zones will not be included until you upgrade to the expansion."
I don't see what's difficult there.
Also, the Goblin zone is completely unreachable to any toon. It's purely a starting zone, and after the goblin has leveled his way out of there, there's no way back.
Dru Nov 23rd 2010 11:50AM
I was under the impression that we couldn't return to the undermine or the south sea starting area, but that the goblins had a new home city in Azshara. Incorrect?
Tbah Nov 23rd 2010 11:54AM
If you want to call it a city.
I'd go and guess Aszhara is indeed open.
guest42 Nov 23rd 2010 9:46AM
Bring on the world PVP! It's going to be a bloodbath with all the 80s checking out the revamped zones!
I plan to split my time evenly between fighting alliance, and trying to find a weakness in blizz's efforts to keep people out of the 80+ zones.
Blue post said they plan to keep people out of those zones until the 7th but he also said it won't surprise him if players find a way to get inside.
I'm aware the zones will be empty but it will be fun trying to get inside!
Silvaria Nov 23rd 2010 9:46AM
I have to move my mage to the graveyard, which is the nearest to Dalaran. Then open portals for lazy peoples... "WTS portal to IF / SW / Darna / Exodar! 15g each!"
Tbah Nov 23rd 2010 11:51AM
Protip: the nearest GY to Dalaran is *in* Dalaran, between the Violet Citadel and the Magus Commerce Exchange.
theRaptor Nov 23rd 2010 9:47AM
People still log in to do dailies/raids?
The only time I have logged in during the last two months was to do events (I only logged in tonight to stand on the Orgrimmar bank roof for the last time). The same is true for most of my guild. As we are a bunch of dirty casuals most of us will probably be levelling alts while waiting for the new 80+ content.

Please for the love of Elune, let this be the one time maintenance ends on time. I'm actually off today.
Zheo Nov 23rd 2010 12:41PM
i raise my office coffee mug in your honour, sir.
thegr81mikal Nov 23rd 2010 9:49AM
Don't Forget Troll Warlocks
They were added late and not on your list.
thegr81mikal Nov 23rd 2010 9:54AM
And Dwarf Warlocks
Brewa Nov 23rd 2010 9:49AM
Major changes coming to any metagem that has 3% Increased Critical Damage. They now "Requires more Blue gems than Red gems" which is a major blow to deeps types as they hit, spirit, stam and spell pen are not dps stats. (At least directly.)
