Patch 4.0.3a: What's in The Shattering, what's not

With Patch 4.0.3a, The Shattering, just around the corner, people are unsure exactly what this means. Will goblins and worgen be available? Will we be able to fly in Azeroth? Will we be able to do anything with the new race/class combinations? Fear not -- WoW Insider has a list of what you can expect to see in the upcoming patch and what won't be found till Dec. 7 and Cataclysm's launch.
What's in The Shattering
What's in The Shattering
- Hearthstone set to Dalaran? Better change that -- Dalaran and Shattrath portals will be removed once the patch hits.
- In place of the handy portals in Dalaran, you'll find a series of equally handy class trainers.
- The new race/class combinations will be playable, with the exception of goblins and worgen.
- If you're wondering why we spent all that time taking back Echo Isles and Gnomeregan, you'll be able to see the fruits of your labors in 4.0.3a, where both the trolls and the gnomes have their brand new starting zones.
- Speaking of zone changes, all level 1 to 60 zones will be forever changed, and as a result, all zones will have fully playable content.
- Fancy new Cataclysm loading screens will be available for all new zones. Be sure to check out the new Northrend loading screen, while you're at it.
- Did you like the new Cataclysm cinematic? Good, because it'll be viewable as of Patch 4.0.3.
- How long have you had your in-game music muted? Now would be a good time to crank it up again, as the new Cataclysm music for all new zones will be implemented.
- The new Cataclysm login screen featuring Deathwing in all his glory above a fiery version of Stormwind will also be available.
- Just in case you haven't gotten exalted with all your home factions, City Quartermasters will be available, along with reputation tabards for each faction.
- A host of bug fixes will be included with this patch.
- New class balancing mechanics and fixes will be included, as well.
- Speaking of classes, if you are a druid, priest, paladin, or shaman, your talent trees will be reset.
- The amount of experience required to gain levels from 71 through 80 will be reduced by 20 percent. Now's a good time to get the rest of those alts to 80!
- New tamable hunter pets, including monkeys, foxes, dogs, and beetles, will be included, as well as new skins for existing pet classes.
What's not in yet
- Want to create a goblin or worgen? You'll have to wait until Dec. 7 for that.
- The worgen and goblin starting zones will not be included until you upgrade to the expansion.
- The new archaeology profession will not be released until Cataclysm's launch.
- You will not be able to level your professions to the next rank (Illustrious Grand Master) until Cataclysm's launch.
- Guild leveling will not be introduced until the expansion's release.
- Similarly, Guild Achievements will not be available until Dec. 7.
- Want to fly in old-world Azeroth? You're going to have to wait until the official release for that one. The Flight Master's License is only available to those who have purchased Cataclysm.
- All new level 80+ zones, including Hyjal, Vash'jir, Uldum, and the Twilight Highlands will not be available for play until Cataclysm's release.

How is hit 'not a deeps stat'? Every attack you miss is damage wasted - 1% hit translates to 1% damage right up to your class' rating softcap.
Brewa Nov 23rd 2010 2:12PM
Because of dots. Dot ticks do not miss, so if the majority of your damage is via dots, feral kitties for example, and you can increase you SP/AP by a greater % than what you will be granted by hit, then it doesn't make sense to hit cap.

Will my shaman be given power auras? And why are the talents being reset for those classes?
Amak Nov 23rd 2010 10:57AM
Not totally sure but they are the 4 classes with healing specs. Maybe they are finalising the cloning process and giving them all the same talent tree.

Good way to get banned too.

I'm most excited about the fact that
1) Goblin rep tabard will be available
2) More cenarion circle quests!
3) More different BB/Everlook/Ratchet quests.
And this patch still gives exalted title from 40 exalted..I got 37/40 exalted..
No longer I have to kill 40 hours of pirates, cultists, bugs or something absurd like that to get exalted with old school factions. Good riddance tedious grinds.. atleast this is helping by good freaking margin

Yes!! I have had horrible luck getting shackle keys in Dire Maul, so I'm only halfway thru Revered with Steamwheedle Cartel. I will be doing the following on my main:
1) Getting a Goblin (Bilgewater Cartel) tabard
2) Doing quests for other Goblins (Steamwheedle Cartel) to grind rep to Exalted
3) Getting new exploration achievements
4) Roll a Tauradin

Argh this was a reply to Guest42.

I think you have a seriously inflated idea of what constitutes a banning in this game.

I have a question. What kind of rep can we get from the city talbards? My level 80 cow druid is in bad need of new mounts, and I don't want to do argent tourney (did it once thanks). If i run a 80 heroic now, what kind of rep would I get? like 1000 a run?
Katsuya Kaiba Nov 23rd 2010 9:54AM
What happened to Troll Warlocks? They still going to be rollable?
styopa Nov 23rd 2010 9:58AM
Personally, I too am going to level a tauren pally (oh, I think there's going to be jillions of us - rock on, Bloodhoof Pally School class of 11/2010!) but I don't get motivation for a paid race transfer.
Maybe I'm the odd duck here, but don't you want to a) see the new leveling experience, b) experience the whole old-world at-level (instead of just wandering through as an 80 pretty much immune to harm)?
I guess a lot of people want to turn their BE pallies to Taurens, I get that. But it doesn't seem like much fun to me.
Sean Nov 23rd 2010 10:09AM
Well there's also the Tauren's higher racial HP and Thunderstomp which is nice for tanking. Plus I hate the fact that my pally had only 1 choice up to this point. So I'm race changing.
lividmonkey Nov 23rd 2010 11:39AM
Any Deathy love?
Kurtis Nov 23rd 2010 10:06AM
Yes, they work just like the faction tabards in Wrath. Each city has one, and you will gain rep with that city for wearing its tabard in level 80+ dungeons.
mat Nov 23rd 2010 10:11AM
Will things like new fish be available to fish up?
Tokhand Nov 23rd 2010 10:27AM
If all the zones are getting their overhaul now, does that mean that Azshara will now include its Pleasure Palace? Or since that is the new goblin homebase we have to wait forever for Azshara to interesting? (2 weeks is forever)
Melvyl Nov 23rd 2010 10:50AM
I worked last night on moving my toons out of Dalaran and setting their hearthstones to... the Argent Tournament. I still have some dailies to complete and some heirlooms I want to buy. I plan to visit the cities to pick up some rep tabards but that is what Death Gates and Mage Teleport and Teleport: Moonglade and the Caverns of Time Portal are for. Getting back to the Old World is just not a big deal.
OldPossum Nov 23rd 2010 10:17AM
And Blizzard still has its head in the sand about character slots, not very willing to admit that, after this much time, a person _can_ have ten 80s in a realm.
I don't, quite, but will have to delete something to roll new.
McRaider Nov 23rd 2010 10:28AM
If I could stay up for until 4am when the servers go down in here, I would be there witnessing the last seconds before the Shattering... Makes me feel a bit... saddish..
