Patch 4.0.3a: What's in The Shattering, what's not

With Patch 4.0.3a, The Shattering, just around the corner, people are unsure exactly what this means. Will goblins and worgen be available? Will we be able to fly in Azeroth? Will we be able to do anything with the new race/class combinations? Fear not -- WoW Insider has a list of what you can expect to see in the upcoming patch and what won't be found till Dec. 7 and Cataclysm's launch.
What's in The Shattering
What's in The Shattering
- Hearthstone set to Dalaran? Better change that -- Dalaran and Shattrath portals will be removed once the patch hits.
- In place of the handy portals in Dalaran, you'll find a series of equally handy class trainers.
- The new race/class combinations will be playable, with the exception of goblins and worgen.
- If you're wondering why we spent all that time taking back Echo Isles and Gnomeregan, you'll be able to see the fruits of your labors in 4.0.3a, where both the trolls and the gnomes have their brand new starting zones.
- Speaking of zone changes, all level 1 to 60 zones will be forever changed, and as a result, all zones will have fully playable content.
- Fancy new Cataclysm loading screens will be available for all new zones. Be sure to check out the new Northrend loading screen, while you're at it.
- Did you like the new Cataclysm cinematic? Good, because it'll be viewable as of Patch 4.0.3.
- How long have you had your in-game music muted? Now would be a good time to crank it up again, as the new Cataclysm music for all new zones will be implemented.
- The new Cataclysm login screen featuring Deathwing in all his glory above a fiery version of Stormwind will also be available.
- Just in case you haven't gotten exalted with all your home factions, City Quartermasters will be available, along with reputation tabards for each faction.
- A host of bug fixes will be included with this patch.
- New class balancing mechanics and fixes will be included, as well.
- Speaking of classes, if you are a druid, priest, paladin, or shaman, your talent trees will be reset.
- The amount of experience required to gain levels from 71 through 80 will be reduced by 20 percent. Now's a good time to get the rest of those alts to 80!
- New tamable hunter pets, including monkeys, foxes, dogs, and beetles, will be included, as well as new skins for existing pet classes.
What's not in yet
- Want to create a goblin or worgen? You'll have to wait until Dec. 7 for that.
- The worgen and goblin starting zones will not be included until you upgrade to the expansion.
- The new archaeology profession will not be released until Cataclysm's launch.
- You will not be able to level your professions to the next rank (Illustrious Grand Master) until Cataclysm's launch.
- Guild leveling will not be introduced until the expansion's release.
- Similarly, Guild Achievements will not be available until Dec. 7.
- Want to fly in old-world Azeroth? You're going to have to wait until the official release for that one. The Flight Master's License is only available to those who have purchased Cataclysm.
- All new level 80+ zones, including Hyjal, Vash'jir, Uldum, and the Twilight Highlands will not be available for play until Cataclysm's release.

Back in my day....before TBC this is how it had to be done. Even then it was significantly harder as the flights only took you one stop, at least they now take you all the way.
Take the opportunity of a 5 minute mini break stretch those limbs and help avoid carpal tunnel syndrome (http://goo.gl/5SGf8). Grab a coffee/bio/cigarette break, tell your loved ones you love them. Heck if you must sit at the PC read a WoW blog, email a friend surf then net.

I think I logged my main in Crossroads or something--I have a feeling Orgrimmar's gonna be pretty crowded and laggy

Ugh, terrible comment system is terrible. This is not where that was supposed to go.

Any idea on if mage glyphs will be fixed????

I was surprised to see that archaeology will not be released until December 7th. I believe that inscription was released a while before the release of WOTLK to give people a chance to level it before the release.

Personally, none of my toons will be left in Stormwind. I can see it now, the sea of players running hither and thither to gather new quests, check out the 'splosions and destruction, and basically hang out in the new chill spot.
But no, not me. My main and bank alt are happily stuck in what was formerly known as Lagaran to many, soon to be free of the hustle and bustle and also that terrible excuse for a portmanteau of the words "Lag" and "Dalaran." Ahh, life is good!

I dont know if this has been answered somewhere before and i appologize if it has but does anyone know how much the training will cost for flying in azeroth?
And does anyone know what Unleash elements will do for the elemental shamans, As i play both.

Flight Master's Licence costs 250g before faction (Stormwind or Orgrimmar) is applied.

Im not sure where to post this but i guess this is as good as any of a spot, but was wondering if anyone else was having problems with the new city tabards, i went into a heroic wearing one and wasnt getting any reputation for home cities? Can anyone explain this, or is it just a bug?

Portals removed AND no flying in old world?? How does that make sense?? Either both on or both off would make sense, this is stupid!

Shade I am disappointed that your whole post is merely a minor fleshing out of the post Boubouille made on MMO-Champion 5 days ago.
I expect more of you than this
Perhaps people US side can answer me this, are the new flight points in place eg Goldshire and Eastvale Logging Camp?
datgrl Nov 24th 2010 6:16AM
Yes, new flight paths are in place, although I only picked up the one outside Goldshire. I pre-ordered Cataclysm at Game Stop but I still can't train Old World Flying. I guess there is a caveat to the Flight Master's License - you have to have purchased the digital download from Blizz?

I changed my hunter's hearthstone to Darnassus for now, but she has her Argent tabard for a quick teleport to Northrend for her dailies and any other ice cold buisness.
