The Queue: Where am I going to wake up today?

This Queue is going to deal, in part, with questions many people have asked over the last few months, some that we haven't always had answers for. But we do have an answer for this first question, thanks to a few Blizzard statements this week.
So many people have asked:
Where am I going to wake up today?
Recently, Blizzard has come out a few times and said that you'll appear at the graveyard nearest to the location where you logged out. So if you logged out in Stormwind, like yours truly did, then you'll show up in the Elwynn Forest graveyard to the south of the Stormwind gates.
So many people have asked:
How much time has passed between Wrath and The Shattering?
As best we can reckon, it's a few years, given Anduin's aging. We should have a Know Your Lore or another one-off piece explaining this. And yes, this means a few years have passed since your character went to sleep last night.
Nethaera said today, "Months into the future? Not quite." I really don't know how to read that -- either as more than a few months, which makes a ton of sense, or less than a few months, which makes no sense. After all, Anduin went from a boy to a teenager -- that happens in a few years' time.
So many people have asked:
Is there going to be another big patch to download on Dec. 7 when Cataclysm is finally released?
There will likely not be another big patch. It's entirely possible -- indeed, likely -- that there will be one or two minor patches between now and then, but the data for Cataclysm's new zones and stuff is already here. The endgame stuff just isn't accessible yet.
So many people have asked:
My friend said that you can fly in Azeroth starting today! ZOMG!
Your friend is wrong. There is so much confusion over what is and isn't in this patch that it's best either to read a detailed list of what's available in the The Shattering and what you have to wait for until Dec. 7. Read the list we published earlier today!

Awaken in the graveyard? Sad day... I logged out and set my hearth to the inn in Razor Hill :)
Slaytanic Nov 23rd 2010 1:08PM
I logged out in The Park, while a friend decided to log out in Thousand Needles.
Spoil all our fun. :P

Why is that sad? Log in, hearth, pick up the new FP at Razor Hill and fly into Org. That actually seems like a good thing.
CrossEyed Nov 23rd 2010 1:12PM
But then I didn't Awaken in Razor Hill to find the world had gone "boom"

Thanks for reminding me about that gem, I may have to go save it before the forums get taken down in December!

Yeah, that's kind of lame. I made a big deal (cuz I knew a few years would be passing in game between last night and today) for my Troll priest when I logged out. I'm not much of an RPer, but I dressed him in some simple priest-like garb and the Bad Mojo Mask (http://www.wowhead.com/item=9470) and logged off him in Sen'jin/Echo Isles. I like to think that after his help in the defeat of the Lich King, and in light of the growing chaos in the old world, he went back to lend his priestly abilities in his old stomping grounds, and that's where he's been for the past few years.
But oh well, I guess he made some random trip to the graveyard right before I log in. :)

damn, and there was me hoping to log in and find my death knight floating face down in the Thousand needles lake

Aww...I equipped dungeon set 1, rode to the top of that mountain just north of the Crossroads, built a campfire, and surveyed the scene once more as I'd never see it like that again.
I was hoping to wake up dead this morning. Apparently, during the night, I became too spooked and ran to a.....graveyard.

they had to do something so that you didn't wake up stuck under the world, requiring their GMs to spend weeks of time rescuing everyone.

@Snowfeather
Although it's without some of the reader suggestions, the marvellous "You Awaken In Razor Hill" is archived at the author's website, here.

Anyone who is worried about losing "You Awaken in Razor Hill" to the forum destruction... the author posted it on his own website. thelittlestmurloc.com

@ Dart and Cromlech (and other Scratchfever lovers)
Did you know that the site Dusk set up to archive the story is actually named after an article on WoW Insider.. where he received a tiny mention after a whole lot of info about a baby in a murloc costume?

Everyone in the world wakes up in a graveyard? Does that mean...we're all dead? Are we on islands, trapped and confused? Is there a guy named Jacob somewhere nearby pulling the strings?

I have no problem with Gnomes becoming priests. What I do have a problem with is come this patch Gnomes will be the race with the fewest possible class choices.
They used to be tied at the bottom with Taurens, but this patch is giving them more new classes than Gnomes.
Come this patch/Cataclysm:
8 Choices: Trolls, Blood Elves, Goblins, Humans, Dwarves, Worgan
7 Choices: Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Night Elves, Draenei
6 Choices: Gnomes
There may or may not be Lore reasons behind the race/class combo choices, but it seems like poor game design to limit one race more than the rest.
My preference would be for all races to have all classes as a choice. Barring that I would prefer all races to have the same number of choices.

Waking in a gy and the "Months into the future? Not quite." comment - maybe we're all now living out our afterlife in Azeroth

My apologies, the above post was supposed to be a reply to one further down about Gnome priests.

Curses, logging out right on a hill next to Camp Turajo with my hearth set there was all in vain!
CURSE YOU BLIZZARD! CURSE YOOOOOUUUU!
