The Queue: Where am I going to wake up today?

This Queue is going to deal, in part, with questions many people have asked over the last few months, some that we haven't always had answers for. But we do have an answer for this first question, thanks to a few Blizzard statements this week.
So many people have asked:
Where am I going to wake up today?
Recently, Blizzard has come out a few times and said that you'll appear at the graveyard nearest to the location where you logged out. So if you logged out in Stormwind, like yours truly did, then you'll show up in the Elwynn Forest graveyard to the south of the Stormwind gates.
So many people have asked:
How much time has passed between Wrath and The Shattering?
As best we can reckon, it's a few years, given Anduin's aging. We should have a Know Your Lore or another one-off piece explaining this. And yes, this means a few years have passed since your character went to sleep last night.
Nethaera said today, "Months into the future? Not quite." I really don't know how to read that -- either as more than a few months, which makes a ton of sense, or less than a few months, which makes no sense. After all, Anduin went from a boy to a teenager -- that happens in a few years' time.
So many people have asked:
Is there going to be another big patch to download on Dec. 7 when Cataclysm is finally released?
There will likely not be another big patch. It's entirely possible -- indeed, likely -- that there will be one or two minor patches between now and then, but the data for Cataclysm's new zones and stuff is already here. The endgame stuff just isn't accessible yet.
So many people have asked:
My friend said that you can fly in Azeroth starting today! ZOMG!
Your friend is wrong. There is so much confusion over what is and isn't in this patch that it's best either to read a detailed list of what's available in the The Shattering and what you have to wait for until Dec. 7. Read the list we published earlier today!

hehe yup... when you open the game now you get the new cinematic.
Good stuff blizz. Good stuff.

First!
Here's a question that's been bugging me: Who's responsible for allowing gnomes to become priests? Does anyone else share my feeling that gnomes are Azeroth's most irreverent race?
Darky Nov 23rd 2010 1:09PM
Obvious troll is obvious.
Mcdreamy Nov 23rd 2010 1:10PM
There was a well written article here a month or so ago about the gnomes and their curse of flesh heritage that did a pretty good job explaining the type of mindset that race in particular has.
Ghrit Nov 23rd 2010 1:17PM
I think you're a troll for calling me a troll, because I'm not trolling, I don't know how and I wouldn't want to.
It's a legitimate thought on gnomes, they seem highly irreverent and out of character in priestly garb. They are engineers, they have an intellect bonus, they are constantly messing with nature, and most of them have the social skills of an IT major. Not quite what I expect from a priest!
dpoyesac Nov 23rd 2010 1:17PM
Irreverent? Naw, that'd be goblins. They just ooze snark.
Irrelevant? Yeah, that might be gnomes. Or worgens. Or Alliance in general, in my (humble!) opinion.
Ghrit Nov 23rd 2010 1:23PM
DP, heh, I can imagine ghastly goblin priests milking millions from megachurches. I may name my new bank alt Penny Hinn and Co.
Hangk Nov 23rd 2010 1:26PM
You got downvoted for saying "First!".
Gnomes have souls like the other Titan creations -> Gnomes are connected to the Light -> Gnomes can channel the Light -> Gnomes can be priests. The spiritual inclinations or lack thereof of individual gnomes isn't relevant.
My gnome priest, whom I will roll momentarily, is going to be the scholarly type, fussing over the correct interpretations and translations of ancient holy writings, and given to quoting Holy Scriptures at length on any and every topic. This seems to me to be in character both for Gnomes and priests.
If the idea really bothers you, don't roll one. *shrug*
Cromlech Nov 23rd 2010 1:49PM
@Ghrit
The goblin airborne priests in Aszhara (Coming SOON(tm)) have a variety of ingenious quotes, including "Light is Money, friend!" and "I've got the best Heals anywhere!"
If you didn't want to roll a goblin priest before, you might now.
Re Gnome priests - I thought (though I may be wrong) that dwarves only got turned on to the metaphysical spiritual world (and thus became Priests and Paladins) once they'd learned of their titan-forged origins. It wouldn't surprise me if some gnomes, if not all, suddenly started thinking about things outside the material world following the revelations from Ulduar and Fizzcrank.
Ghrit Nov 23rd 2010 2:13PM
It doesn't bother me, Hangk, it's just a thought. Although I like the idea of an irreligious race (a refreshing counter to the draenei...), I realize that, like the Discworld, Azeroth would be a naturally hazardous environment for atheists. 'I don't believe in Thor.' *zap* 'alright, alright, I'm sorry!'
To me, saying 'first' is an innocuous way of opening up a comment, but apparently not here. What's also apparent is that the mob rules these comments through downranking -- I think it's distasteful. It's like booing. Have you ever booed or been booed? I haven't and I wouldn't, but that's precisely what goes on here.
As long as I'm being downranked for unpopularity, ADAM HOLINSKY: Please stop changing the website address? Please?
Lucasman Nov 23rd 2010 2:35PM
Adam has nothing to do with the website changing, the former url was owned by AOL and therefore when they are told to move, they move.
Dendaris Nov 23rd 2010 2:31PM
Here's your answer: http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/09/12/know-your-lore-gnome-priests-and-the-failure-of-the-flesh/
Now, I'm getting out of this toxic comment thread.
Rylka Nov 23rd 2010 2:46PM
I have no problem with Gnomes becoming priests. What I do have a problem with is come this patch Gnomes will be the race with the fewest possible class choices.
They used to be tied at the bottom with Taurens, but this patch is giving them more new classes than Gnomes.
Come this patch/Cataclysm:
8 Choices: Trolls, Blood Elves, Goblins, Humans, Dwarves, Worgan
7 Choices: Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Night Elves, Draenei
6 Choices: Gnomes
There may or may not be Lore reasons behind the race/class combo choices, but it seems like poor game design to limit one race more than the rest.
My preference would be for all races to have all classes as a choice. Barring that I would prefer all races to have the same number of choices.

the light in azeroth is not a belief system, it's a practical system where if you do certain things you'll get certain results, like arcane magic or alchemy, so it's not really faith (you know for sure).
the gnomes as a pragmatical race would have no more problem dealing with light magic than dealing with demon magic or arcane magic.
saying first is off topic, and mostly considered immature and distastefull so most likely people who use it will be downvoted, or in your words booed
Pamoya Nov 23rd 2010 4:01PM
Being down-ranked for "unpopularity" is how this community expresses its norms--what is and what isn't accepted for commenting behavior. Like disapproving body language or a frown from someone when talking face-to-face, it allows people to recognize and then later adjust when their behavior isn't in line with what the community expects. In my opinion, the "like/dislike" feature is part of the reason why the commenting environment here is superior to other large fan websites.
It seems as if you unwittingly violated the strongly held position here that "First" posts are obnoxious and off-topic. Hopefully the response let you and others reading know that if you want your posts taken seriously, don't do that. I think this is very different than mob rule or drowning people out by booing. Your post is still visible, after all, and people have responded to the content of it.
Phredreeke Nov 23rd 2010 4:54PM
Rylka: Actually, trolls and dwarves have 9 classes (paladin and druid being the exceptions)
mike Nov 23rd 2010 1:11PM
Woo! Azeroth is shattered! I am going to miss all the time I spent in the old world, but I'm looking forward to rolling a few new ones to level in the new world =D
Soralanon Nov 23rd 2010 1:07PM
hope they fixed it so you wont strictly log in at the CLOSEST Graveyard but rather the closest FRIENDLY graveyard lol. On the ptr leaving a dungeon that i had entered while in hillsbrad put me at the alliance av portal, as 27 horde that wasnt to cool lol.
elstor Nov 23rd 2010 1:07PM
What happened to the Paladin ability similar to the blinding shield in ToC5? It was announced months ago and I havent heard of it since.
Drakkenfyre Nov 23rd 2010 1:11PM
You ask this every time.
IT WAS NEVER AN ABILITY. It was a joke.
It was at BlizzCon.
Person: "What about the upgraded abilities the faction champions have? Is there any chance we're getting those?"
Blizzard: "Level 90 abilities, right there! Thanks!"
