Well, Desolace and other areas could have been growing since Vanilla, or maybe since BC. That gives them about three or so years, which is still a fairly short time for massive trees to grow, but that was because of druids.

Deathwing popped straight out of the Maelstrom, since it was a weakened area of the world to begin with. Not to mention the massive amounts of magic in the area.
