I like to think of it this way:
Blizzard already offers the best MMORPG at the cheapest price out there (short of the free to play). They have HUGE overhead costs. If it comes down to a choice between increasing the monthly subscription fee for everyone, or putting out these sorts of micro-transactions that are for nothing but vanity items, then I for one will pick the vanity items every time.
Let those that think its worth the money pay, and those that don't don't. Blizz gets the money to keep making the game, and we get to keep playing it for the same monthly fee we always have.
