Live Stream: How to get the Singing Sunflower pet
Choose My Adventure is on a hiatus as we discuss its future and wait for Cataclysm to arrive. In its place today, I am going to be streaming my strategy for beating the Plants vs. Zombies minigame in Hillsbrad Foothills. I will take you through step by step from getting to the quest through to getting your pet. I will also be answering questions as we go, so please join us in the chat after the break.
Update: The stream is now over. You can click on the above screenshot for the video replay. Stay tuned for a full text guide to accompany the video soon.

I have slow internet, so watching the livestream is a bit of a pain, will this be available to watch later?
(cutaia) Nov 29th 2010 1:31PM
Yup. It'll be archived for later viewing. Just check this post in an hour or so and the live stream will be replaced with a link.

Is there some problem with this - all i can see is a chatroom still - no embedded video
Also later on there are many ppl saying you need 10+sunflower for it. I find this strange as ive done it twice now (and not died at any point) with only 5 :- 1 row sunflowers - 1 row spitters - 1 row slowers - then some rocknuts - and then just bomb the boss. The second time i even replaced my flowers as they were killed by the boss, and still had all bar one of my 3 rows up when he died.

I've been asked so many times how I get the sunflower pet that I've macro'd the directions where and what the quest is.

I just did this quest series on the weekend, and I have to say, it was freakin' hard! I've even had a touch of PvZ experience and I still had to repeat the last 2 parts of the chain.
The best advice I can give is try to have at least 8 sunflowers running in the Pumpkin Bomb/Warden Stillwater quests. You will start to rely heavily on bombs later on.
As an aside, on my server the Alliance were being cowardly dogs (as per usual) and camping people that dephased once they completed each wave. Bring friends or expect to die.

Not sure if it's been fixed yet or not but AE abilities will break everyone out of phase. A NELF hunter dropped a trap where people were standing and when one person phased out and triggered it everyone else took damage and broke out of the quest. It was kind of funny because the game was still going but I was able to run around all the plants and collect sun power.

Same here. Would be nice if there was a "Peace of the Sunflower" mini-zone pvp forbearance of some nature, but I suppose Alliance gotta be Alliance, right? 80s ganking 25s never gets old for them.
Revrant Nov 29th 2010 2:52PM
Really? I've found two rows of sunflowers followed by two rows of peashooters works fine, throw down some rocknuts or freezers where you need them and bomb the big guys.
Didn't have any problems with that system, since this is a very trim version of the full game(and slower).

"Same here. Would be nice if there was a "Peace of the Sunflower" mini-zone pvp forbearance of some nature, but I suppose PvP'ers gotta be PvP'ers, right? 80s ganking 25s never gets old for them."
Fixed that for you. :P

Horde NEVER do any sort of ganking, EVER. They are totally peaceable. Like puppies.
JC_Icefox Nov 29th 2010 3:30PM
That's totally true, actually. Have you ever scratched a Tauren behind the ears? We love that, if you get it in the right place you can get our hooves kicking.
In seriosity, this wasn't intended as a QQ about Alliance, I've no shadow of a doubt that Horde players are just as guilty. I had a blast following around lowbies on quests stepping on every Hunter and Warrior trying to one-shot people.
Warlocks, though, you have now been shifted ofvtge main focus of my ire. Ret paladins, you get a break here. I mean, 12% nerf and level 74s are giving my 1k resil main a run for my money. Just try that in a fair fight and I'll give you something to cry about. Break off 12% of my hoof in your ass, I tell ya.

When I finally got it done, I used 13 Sunflowers, 2 normal peashooters, and an army of tentacle vines making a wall across the front of my yard.
"There's a zombie in your ya-hard... owait, he just got thrown out by your ridiculous vine wall!"
brian Nov 29th 2010 6:41PM
Yeah, I did two rows of sunflowers as soon as I could. That got solar power pumping out real fast. A row or two of shooters/freezas, vines, and rocknuts, and you're basically set.
Plus, if they do start to overwhelm you, the ridiculous amount of solar power you're getting will make you wish you could lower the cooldown on pumpkin bomb.
Brainfreeze Nov 29th 2010 1:38PM
Anyone that is having trouble with this should just play the PvZ demo.
Claire Nov 29th 2010 2:37PM
PvZ experience helps, but is no guarantee. The mechanics of PvG are slightly different, not to mention the bugs.
clundgren Nov 29th 2010 1:40PM
As a bit of a PvsZ addict, I didn't find this chain challenging, but I thought the designers did quite a clever job of reimagining the game for WoW. It was simplified but suitably challenging, especially given that PvsZ nubs have to be able to do it, and I loved my giant tentacle vine ability. I want to see that added to PvsZ.
Tortheldrin Nov 29th 2010 1:53PM
Did This Yesterday, It was Tons of Fun. Just remember to plant bunch of sunflowers.
jfofla Nov 29th 2010 2:01PM
Not a big fan of bringing another game into my game. I really resent having to play another game to learn this quest.
Nagaina Nov 29th 2010 2:09PM
Well, you know, you can always *not do the quest.*
