Two question:
Does it effect those who preordered their copy already?
Does it effect those who ordered it online to be delivered to their doorstep (through Gamestop's webiste)?
Urza Nov 30th 2010 12:14AM
Anyone that preordered it should be included in those offers, just make sure your card is linked to the order.
What you won't get from ordering it online is the cataclysm poster. Each gamestop doing a midnight should have 25 cataclysm posters to give away.

screw digital when you get cheaper places delivering before release.

THERE IS A PET FOR THE 6TH ANNIVERSARY AND AN ACHIEVEMENT!

They'll be giving the perks packs away like candy, since they don't actually really cost Gamestop anything - it's effectively advertising they sold to those other manufacturers/retailers.
Any copies they have to sell that night will get it as well.
It's really not worth it unless you were already planning on buying one of the things included, and somehow they didn't have a better Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal.

Just wanted to say that digital vs retail will matter a lot less if you're not in the Pacific time zone.
Otherwise you get at least an hour to get home and 'install' - that is if you haven't already pre-downloaded the digital release data.
I like to have a box, and I'm three hours off of Pacific time. I'll be right there online with all the digital download people too, and I get to enjoy the somewhat fun atmosphere of a midnight release as well (not some people's thing, I know).

For a second I thought it would be something that actually matters, you know, like a mount. Was a little disappointed that I wouldn't get it from my amazon order. I couldn't care less about a 20% discount though.
Superthrust Nov 29th 2010 9:56PM
True. my discount at best buy is better than failstop's weak attempt...
COME ON MOOSE MOUNT! COME ON SOMETHING USEFUL!
Hal Nov 29th 2010 9:22PM
Bah! I tried! I went to my local GameStop, and the guy told me, "We aren't doing preorders for that anymore."
Bah again!
Urza Nov 30th 2010 12:22AM
Collector's preorders are over but regular are still on.
Frosty Nov 29th 2010 9:22PM
Oh Failstop, you can't go out of business fast enough for me.
Drago Dracini Nov 29th 2010 9:38PM
And yet even without your business GameStop is still doing the best out of all other gaming retailers. Wonder where your logic lies with that. ;p GG

VERY much agreed. Gamestop needs to burn. I welcome the inevitable downrates this post will garner. I still hold to my opinion.

All gaming retailers are slowly dying with the advent of digital purchasing.
Their greatest profit margin is on used games, so they deliberately understock new games so that they may sell their used ones. But you can't turn in a "used" digital license for a game - thus, their largest profit margin will be destroyed. Trust me, very soon gaming retailers will die.
Drakkenfyre Nov 29th 2010 10:23PM
GameStop bases most of it's business on used games. They purposefully want to screw the developers out of as much money as possible because it means more for them. The CEO has said as much. The more money they make in used games, is more straight profit for them.
Most GameStops resemble a used gamestore more than an actual retail store. They are eager to sell you a used copy for $5 less than new (or in a few cases I have ACTUALLY seen with my OWN eyes, sell you a used copy for $5 more than new hoping you will think it's a cheaper price.) And they bug the hell out of you to buy memberships in their club, buy magazine subscriptions, and buy more used games.
Not to mention how pathetically they rip people off. You bring in 10 used games that are new to the market, and you are lucky to get out with $50.
Their hatred is well-deserved, and they have expressed worry about certain situations involving their staying power, and that's why they are getting into the digital download business.
His comment about them going under isn't exactly an uninformed one.
Tuhljin Nov 29th 2010 10:54PM
Why the hate? Did a GameStop employee kill your kitten or something? Maybe the stores in your area have some stupid policy I'm not aware of, but I've never had any real problems with them that I recall. These days most of my game shopping is done online, but a few years ago it was one of the first places I'd look for new games (they had good sales and better selection than other stores in the area) and I have gone in there more recently as well and continued to have no problems.

"... GameStop is still doing the best out of all other gaming retailers. Wonder where your logic lies with that. ;p GG"
Best out of all other gaming retailers? So they are #1 out of a total of 3 or something?
Blockbuster is king of DVD rental franchises too, but it doesn't mean they are long for this world.
