The Daily Quest: Shattered reactions

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
So Orgrimmar's been replaced, the world's been torn asunder, Pilgrim's Bounty is officially over and the Shattering is officially here! Now that the chaos has made itself known (as well as a certain incredibly grumpy black dragon), let's take a look around the blogosphere for some post-Shattering reactions.
- The Pink Pigtail Inn has some shattered thoughts on the Shattering.
- Cynwise's Battlefield Manual is feeling a little overwhelmed -- but that's perfectly OK.
- Tree Bark Jacket shares some first impressions of the Shattering.
- Priest With A Cause has some first impressions to share as well.

Little bit off topic, but I'm hoping everyone has run the silverpine questline. After that when it sends you into hillsbrad, it kicks off with THE best quest ever. I won't even begin to spoil it, it's so awesome.
Ok, just a little...
SPOILER
( /tiny voice You get to be a quest giver...)

I'm currently taking my time through Silverpine/Gilneas on my Belf Warrior alt I rolled 2 nights ago, And can I just say.. BEST ZONE SO FAR!
I have always played Alliance, my Horde alts have only ever gotten to level 10 before being deleted but Silverpine was one of the best zones I have ever come across, I've only really just stepped into Gilneas and now can't wait for Hillsbrad.
Does the Forsaken vs Worgen thing end in Hillsbrad though? I kind of wish I could go all the way to 58 with this storyline.

I just rolled a forsaken warlock (first one) and am looking forward to it! Hillsbrad was one of my favorite zones. I was really sad to see south shore turned into a zombie haven. It was my favorite minor town. I was actually hoping it would get an upgrade with the shattering to a port town (like menethil harbor) but blizzard saw otherwise. If the questlines in silverpine and hillsbrad are that good, maybe its okay that the foresaken seem to be steamrolling everything!

SPOILER:
Anyone notice that Sylvannas 34.4 M Hitpoints go down to a single shotgun blast?

I'm loving the new quests, makes the game alot more fun when you don't need to travel all over the place, also, there is more store and life to the zones now, EPL has been one of my favorites :-)

Agreed, they're grouped much better, it's a much more enjoyable experience. And the quests are of much higher quality too = fun = win = profit etc etc

My first impressions are this: most of the world is great except arathi highlands. Dustwallow marsh is probably better later on but so far not much has changed which is pretty disappointing
Kalimdor has the best quests ever it is quite obviously better to quest in
Blayze Nov 29th 2010 8:09PM
I was expecting more Fallout and lava.
Rufio Nov 29th 2010 8:58PM
I'm pretty sure it's there. I saw a fair bit around the place. As we get nearer to Deathwing and his minions I'm sure it'll only get more badass. In deepholme there should be lots of fan, lava and shit-hitting going on.

I'm loving the in Dugeon quest. SO much more convienent than going to 3 different cities to pick up all the quest you need for one old world instance. Now, they give you a lead in quest to get you to go to the instance, and usually something like 3 quest right inside the instance. Perfect!
Still kinda annoyed that I'm taking quest to kill worgen in Silverpine, but can't roll a Worgen to get revenge, but I guess there's just one more week. So I guess I'll survive...I guess...
;-)

Regarding the Pink Pigtail, people would actually quit the game over the Portals? Really?
Blizzard needs to hold firm.
They gave in to the whiners over Real ID, and that has lead to a temper tantrum now over every change in the game.
Blizzard, grow a pair.

Asilventures in the latest of the Tuesday posts asks the tough question "What are you proud of in World of Warcraft?" and examines video games' memorability. Can video games make for lasting memories?

is it just me or Blizzard is fond of the "shatt" prefixes?
Shattered Halls
Shattered Sun Offensive
Shattrath City
and now the Shattering?

Shattner did a commercial for them too, didnt he?

Four very positive reviews (I mean, one has someone crying?)?
Is the response really this overwhelming? Can't we at the very least find one reviewer who says, "Back in the day I used to have to kill 10 panthers in STV and run all the way back to the camp to turn in... uphill both ways"?
Or is everyone really having these kinds of nirvana-like orgasmic bliss?

Ok,
All being said, I really do like the new content, but I run out of quests in certain areas or just out level them faster (Stonetalon -- Linked quests seem to get broken if you can't find one small detail. We've seen this in IceCrown before.) However, the game seems to be no longer about our 80s (Nerf Nerf Nerf Nerf) and more about re-rolling (Less of Blizzard rebalancing truth, and forcing frustration into re-roll.) Finding my way around becomes tedious at times through the broken world (so it's a learning experience and a lot of in game time to figure out.) The quests and outleveling is really the small issue. I'm honestly having a hard time wanting to play my 80s that I raided my tail off with.
Please note -- yes..I'm going to take a slap for this, but I play a dps warrior and that in itself just got destroyed.
The portal challenge -- I hate this. We need to have portals without being Mage dependent. To think that we all have a raid and wait for Schmuckola priest to run all accross Azeroth and everywhere else to just get there because he / she / it is late, to waste time getting there is just silly (Might be nice to force unlock these with a quest). (Yes -- Warlocks Summons, Yes -- Mages can waste time porting to and back.) But the fluidity of the game has changed to run around and honestly just re-level.
It's a new game -- I just don't like to hate my high level toons which I feel like I do now.

@Burninggrl
Yeah, I agree. I had thought I'd read there'd be portals in major cities but I must have misunderstood.
I leveled a new toon (something I really dislike, since I have so much invested in my 80 priest) and found it to be somewhat enjoyable. But, that's because there was some new content, such as in Silverpine, and the Bloodsail Pirates and they made leveling extremely easy; I even believe they've spread out mobs so we don't risk aggroing more than one. Quests sometimes can be turned in immediately after completion. Caves and castles have been greatly simplified via cave-ins. I can't help but wonder if they've made it all too easy. Where's the challenge? Or does that even matter with so many having 80 mains already?
I'm disappointed WoW has no video Gamma controls. I'm an artist and I don't believe it's better art just because it's darker/grittier. I know a lot love Orgrimmar, but I want to bring it up a notch or two in brightness. I will confess I liked old Org simply because it reminded me of the Flinstones, so it could also be taste (or lack thereof?).
I also think Orcs can only see in shades of red, and Forsaken in shades of blue. I can't think of any other explanation for the limited palette for those two factions.
Less about personal taste, this author makes an excellent point about the lack of a segue between old WoW and the Shattering: http://www.mmomeltingpot.com/tag/cairne-bloodhoof/
Simply put, he's unhappy there were no explanations in-game of what happened between. Heck, I had to start a lowbie to even find out why the Forsaken suddenly began building new styles of architecture (largely symbolic cut from their human past).
Crusader Liannin Nov 30th 2010 12:03PM
There are going to be portals to the new leveling areas, and I believe they added a portal from the Exodar to Darnassus, but currently that's all I've read about. Unless I'm mistaken.
