The Queue: Live show Friday!

This Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Pacific, we'll be doing a live episode of The WoW Insider Show! Yours truly will be joined by Matthew Rossi and Anne Stickney to bring in Cataclysm with style, pizazz and fun. We'll take Cataclysm questions, lore discussions, gameplay stuff, zone previews ... and even some special surprises may be in store. Don't miss us jabbering on about Cataclysm this Friday! There will be a more detailed post up soon, but I just wanted to let all the fans know early, since I love you so much.
No, really, I do.
jasondrust asked:
What's the deal with the lack of anniversary pet and any cool item at all from the world event of Cataclysm, like a tabard or ghost pet that follows us around saying, "I WAS THERE MAN. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW".
This year isn't so much a milestone as the fifth year anniversary, so I guess Blizzard just didn't feel like putting something in -- kind of like how we got the 2009 Brewfest stein again for 2010. As for cool item from the Cataclysm pre-events, I guess you could count the Echo Isles and Gnomeregan items that turn you into a troll or a gnome, respectively.
Hal asked:
It seems as though the Alliance has lost a lot of ground to the undead. Have they made any comparable gains anywhere else?
It seems like the Alliance has lost more ground to their enemies because they did. The original World of Warcraft had a heavy emphasis on Alliance zones, with little to no Horde presence. Cataclysm attempted to shift the balance back to a 50/50 split, and in doing so, a lot of what the Alliance considered "safe" territory was thrown into conflict.
However, the biggest loss to the Horde this expansion has been, as people noted, the Southern Barrens. This area was ripe for new possibilities and changes, and it turned out to be one of the best revamped zones after The Shattering because of the conflict created. It is definitely well done.
Drew asked:
Does anyone know if Deathwing is burning zones yet?
He certainly is.
Hal also asked:
It seems the city tabards don't count towards the 25-tabard achievement. Is this a bug or intentional?
Don't forget, the achievement actually states that you have to equip 25 tabards, so don't forget to try each one on and watch that achievement counter fly. Also, if you used the previous Argent Tournament versions of the tabards towards the achievement, they will not work, as they are the same items.
Maccabeus asked:
A while back, a question was posed about whether the community at large would be able to obtain the "Aka'Magosh" shirts from BlizzCon. After seeing the red one, I have decided: DO WANT. BAD.
Sooo...will they be available?
Aka'magosh shirts are in the works, actually. We should have an update soon!
Batkat asked:
Is it just me, or do the Goblin Trikes come off as unfinished? I just got mine, and I've noticed they don't make much sound except for when you summon them or they drop a distance. The jump of the trike is also rather inanimate. Otherwise, they are rather fun to zoom around in, just a little disappointing when they run so quiet.
You aren't the only one. For some reason, the trikes have no real jump animation like the Mechano-hog and feel very static. I have no idea why. But yes, the sentiment is not just your own -- they feel a little unfinished.
Nat asked:
What happened to Mannoroth's armor? Is it still on display somewhere?
It sure is.

oh so THAT'S why the last sentence on this weeks podcast was scary and hinted at the fact we may see you again before next week... I was wondering about that

What better for a source of WoW info, wowwiki.com or wowpedia.com?
Imnick Nov 30th 2010 2:49PM
I'm pretty sure wowwwiki was abandoned in favour of wowpedia due to issues with wikia so you shouldn't be using it.
Ilmyrn Nov 30th 2010 2:55PM
I like wowwiki, myself. It seems like wowpedia has lower writing quality. That's not to say that wowwiki is Dickens, but it seems generally better written.
Drakkenfyre Nov 30th 2010 3:31PM
llrym, WoWPedia.org is the same site. The people from WoWWiki went over, and the articles were copied.
How could they be lower quality if they were copied over?
Kia Nov 30th 2010 3:31PM
@ Ilmyrn
Wowpedia IS WoW Wiki.
Xid Nov 30th 2010 3:44PM
Wowpedia WAS Wowwiki. Most of the admins and users of Wowwiki left the site after some disagreements with the host, Wikia, and copied all the info from the old Wowwiki over to Wowpedia. Any differences between the websites now are due to edits made after the move. Personally I've moved over to Wowpedia as well.
Kurtis Nov 30th 2010 3:52PM
Ilmyrn - considering that wowpedia was essentially a dump of wowwiki content into new software, I'd be surprised if there is any appreciable difference between them. However, given the fact that they converted just in time for a worldwide cataclysm, it's possible that the editorial teams simply haven't caught up yet.
If you edit anything at wowwiki, you get a pleasant message informing you that the wowwiki site is going away and would you please please pretty please with a lump of sugar switch over to wowpedia instead.
Eternauta Nov 30th 2010 3:59PM
Wowpedia is Wowwiki.
The admins from the old wowiki site abandoned it and formed Wowpedia instead. Since wowpedia is very new, you'll find that many info is missing, but wowpedia is much more updated and will become the definitive WoW wikipedia once all of the previous wowwiki articles are copied and updated.

To further explain the issue as I understand it, Wikia was basically trying to force more ads on all of their wikis AND a layout that actually had been reported by those who tested it as giving eye strain and headaches. Quite a few wikis were not pleased with Wikia for doing it. This change ALSO severely hampered tooltips from working correctly, and things like the charts that WoWwiki had previously used. Wikia would not give up the wowwiki name as they make a ton of money from that wiki and money is basically their main objective (they ARE a company, of course it is, but generally companies should listen to their customers and not insist on layouts that cause medical issues too.) So. There was some furor and then almost all of the main founders and editors decided to copy all the pages on Wowwiki and switch to Wowpedia, which Curse is currently hosting. There apparently will be MINIMAL ads later to help offset the cost of hosting them. Wikia reacted by demoting the power of anyone who was involved in the switch, even if they were still trying to keep the trolls off of Wowwiki, and hiring their OWN PEOPLE, some of which have even basically said they hate WoW, to be the new admins at "Wowwiki". This is why everyone is encouraged to switch to wowpedia.org for information and not visit the Wowwiki pages anymore. I'm not personally involved in the issue, but I did read the discussions on it out of curiosity. The reason why it's important to specifically go to wowpedia is because google will only start ranking that higher in searches when more people pick wowpedia out of a google list over wowwiki. Wikia really doesn't deserve to continue gaining money when attempts were made to reason with them and they wouldn't... and they admitted that Wowwiki was the most successful Wikia wiki. That's not as summed up as I'd like, but it's a tangled mess of an issue and I tried. :/

One thing of note. There are many articles that have been updated on wowwiki that sadly have not be added or updated in wowpedia. I hope wowpedia can catch on because I really liked wowwiki and I am also of the kind of person who will gladly boycott wowwiki if I can find the info on wowpedia.
Basically wowpedia feels like wowwiki that stopped at the switch and this makes me sad.
pcj Nov 30th 2010 9:33PM
@icepyro, you have it backwards. Wowpedia is better updated now - WoWWiki is becoming more outdated.
Baba Nov 30th 2010 1:08PM
Hide yo' wives, hide yo' kids, Deathwing's burning up everyone round here.. :O
Powatodapeople Nov 30th 2010 2:36PM
I don't mean to be mister downer, but I don't find this joke that funny anymore...
Hollow Leviathan Nov 30th 2010 3:55PM
Contrary to several claims I've heard, you can farm for [Stood in the Fire]. Just make your wow windowed, afk in the centerish of your eligible zone of choice, and you'll probably get it in a week.
Much better alternative: just get all your loremaster zone achievements in the old world, same chance of burnination, have fun waiting for your pathetic ignition temperature to betray you. Although you should technically wait for 12/7 to do that for guild rep/XP.
Hollow Leviathan Nov 30th 2010 4:04PM
Typo, should read 'Contrary to several clams I've heard'. Those gossipy bivalves.
Bynde Nov 30th 2010 1:09PM
Isn't this patch day? And 1 week before cata? I thought Wow.com would be chock full of Cata stuff today.
Does wow.com have anything interesting to report to us about this
patch day? Are there any other pre-cata events happening? Or was
that it?
I hope not because the pre-events so far have been pretty weak.
Drakkenfyre Nov 30th 2010 1:30PM
Nope.
The download you got was to fix a few things, and fix some missing models. The data you downloaded had you had downloaded before, so Blizzard doesn't consider this a new patch.
Josin Nov 30th 2010 1:20PM
No patch. Just Tuesday.
