Around Azeroth: Waterworld
"Honey, have you seen my scuba suit?" writes Saz of <Easy Company> on Aggramar (US-A). "Perhaps I should start using my Explorer title again. As of late, a friend and I have taken to exploring various lesser-visited areas around Azeroth. The other day while we were visiting the newly implemented city of Gilneas, we decided to take a dive. What we found was quite unexpected."

Ain't played beta, but I'm pretty sure where that is.
*spoilers*
So I was doing the Silverpine quests on my main two days ago, and of course at around 30/60 quests done you get sent into the Ruins of Gilneas. Since I was surprised to be here, I went for an explore. The southwest portion of the zone is underwater, with a few roofs and rocks sticking out and lots of debris. Comparing the Gilneas map with ones on Wowpedia, when you start a Worgen the area is actually above water at the beginning - a combination of Forsaken bombardment and the Cataclysm sinks it over the course of the first few quests. The place is called Duskhaven.
It is NOT Gilneas City itself.

Feanora, this was probably my most memorable moment from leveling a Worgen in beta. No spoilers of what exactly happens from me, but it was pretty epic to watch.
Regardless of your faction affection, I recommend rolling both a Worgen AND a Goblin just to see the starting area quest. So much work went into them, they really deserve to be seen.

What Darius said. It's a result of just the Cataclysm, not the Forsaken bombardment. As a lowbie Worgen, you actually do some quests in that town b/f it gets submerged.
As the Death Knight starting area introduced, explained, and set the stage for the Lich King, the Argent Crusade, and the Ebon Blade in Wrath, so do the Goblin and Worgen starting areas explain and set the stage for the Cataclsym.
Highly recommend everyon levels both through their respective starting areas to see it all.

Coincidentally the Nostalgia Critic just posted a review of the movie Waterworld :p

The movie made more sense if you saw the director's cut. At the very least they could have kept it in what mountain they were on at the end in the regular version.
The pic reminds me of the underwater town in the game. I wish I could have found it before it was removed.

Oh hey, Sanger Zonvolt.
And thanks for mentioning the Critic, it completely slipped my mind to check for updates.

Fair enough too, seeing how the Gilneans have never really cared about anyone else in the Alliance.

Blizz, please please make this zone something more than just empty space at some point!
(wasn't in the Beta, so I don't know if there'll be anything here after the Worgen starting experience)
I'm gonna roll a Worgen to get to play through it, but when I went through it the other day on my druid, it was depressing that this amazing looking zone was sitting unused.
Haletronic Dec 1st 2010 12:02PM
I think we wait till Dec 7, then the zone will be populated. I explored Gilneas the other day: Amazing beauty, great music, no one around.
Ya. Dec 7 will see things in full swing.
After all these years, WoW is still a great game!

A day that will live in...?
Saltytoes Dec 1st 2010 2:35PM
ACTUALLY it will stay empty, this is all post-phasing, after the whole Worgen starting experience.

*spoilers again*
The reason you're not seeing NPCs is because they're phased. Halfway through Silverpine (as Horde) you get sent on a little commando mission in Gilneas to retrieve a corpse for Forsakenification, while the main Forsaken line is utterly destroyed by Worgen guerrillas and the 7th Legion, pulling back to a defensive line in Silverpine.

And that was supposed to be a reply. Damn this comment system.
Chris Dec 1st 2010 12:31PM
No he just doesnt care about worgen
Tokhand Dec 1st 2010 12:42PM
Yo Genn. I'm really happy for you. Imma let you finish (getting revenge on the Forsaken), but the Blood Elves were one of the best new races of all time!

Anyone watch "The Incredibles?" (supposed to be italics but idk how to do that...)
There is a line "Honey! Have you seen my supersuit?" Not sure if its supposed to be a reference to that but it made me happy.
