This article is misleading since you can't play cataclysm at midnight pst no matter how or where you buy it. Because if you buy a physical copy in the store and don't pick it up you won't have your cd key to activate the content. Or if you order a physical copy and ups doesn't arrive at your door until 4 pm december 7th, you still won't be able to play. So how and where still matters, just your timezone doesn't since it all goes around PST.
You can however still download the content before hand so you don't have to install.

Yeh see, saying that you can play at midnight means that the servers and the game will be ready to play right then. Meaning as soon as you've downloaded and enabled the game, you can log on right away.
Not that you'll be able to log on exactly at midnight if you buy a physical copy.
As for "no matter how or where you buy it"... digital download. I'm pretty sure you could play at midnight, bar the 2-3 minutes it'd take to put in the expansion key.

Oh my lord. You're saying that this article is MISLEADING because you can't play if you haven't picked up your copy of the game or the post hasn't delivered it yet? Paint the cows red and stick a crowbar up my nose if a certain level of common sense is not assumed by the author.
Is the article also misleading for not mentioning that you can't play the game if you:
: Don't have a computer?
: Are stuck down a well?
: Had your game stolen by an pod of evil dolphins?
: Bet your brother $20 you would be able to hold out playing 'til the 10th?
: Are dead?
: Don't have an active subscription?
: Had you house burnt down by a basic campfire?
: Bought a copy of MINEcraft by mistake?
: Can't access the internet from your cave?
: Are forbidden to play during work, Mr Pilot sir?
: Dropped your HDD into traffic?
: Can't get back from the past after a time-travel mishap?
Anything I missed?

Actually I believe digital download customers are good to go when the servers go live.
In my case - in Britain :) - that's actually 11.01pm on 6th December, because Europe goes live at midnight CET and we're an hour behind that.
