Yumfries is back with a brand new season of Nub Tales. The first episode is Lich King Does Orphan Week, in which Arthas is forced to take on an abandoned misfit named Carmen. If you take the time to watch the movie, you might find the overall plot surprises you.
Yumfries managed to nail an ending in his story that helps shed a different light on Arthas. Of course, it's not even vaguely canonical, and the whole story is mostly in jest, but Yumfries still slid in some humanity and pathos to the situation. I was a little surprised how effective the ending was, and I hope we get to see Yumfries revisit his dramatic chops. Interested in the wide world of machinima? uhh... wow. Not what I was expecting. 0.o "Thumbs up if you laughed!"? well, I guess I did, at the beginning, but then the whole story was quite touching, if a bit absurd. I dunno what to think. xP
i found the video entertaining, and this isn't to slam it or anything, but why to so many machinima makers feel the need to put the words on the screen that everyone says? it's not hard to understand people talking, and i feel it is really distracting. unless a character is so incredibly hard to understand that the average person couldn't make an educated guess as to what they said, or if something is spoken in a language other than what your target audience speaks, i don't see a need for it at all. my ocd makes me read everything written on the screen in these and that's a lot of time i'm not spending just watching and enjoying the movie.
i'm not sure how reading english (often with slang and typos) would help people understand it more than just hearing it, but fair enough with the hearing impaired.
I can perfectly understand english when I read it, including slang or even early modern english. But it's a different story when I hear it, because I don't have the practice and I'm not used to it. When you use voice effects and very different voice pitchs, some words don't come very clear to us non english speakers.
It seems like Yummifries understands this and wants his work to be accessible by everyone. I think that's pretty smart of him, and I'm grateful for that.
Not to mention Yumfries likes to use lots of... odd voices in his videos that can sometimes be not the easiest to understand. You also have people who may watch the videos in a place where they can't have the sound up too much (or at all) so the text can enable them to watch without issue. My former roommate had only headphones on his computer so if we were to watch something on it we would have to try to both listen on them, that is another instance where subtitles makes things easier. There are lots of scenarios when you think about em.
*adds* In the end, it's a really nice thing to do. Shows he's thinking about keeping it accessible for as many people as possible, something that is vital for someone in the video entertainment world.
Wow that was really good. Sure it's not his usually laughs but it was very touching and it's awesome to see that he has the range to be able to make us laugh AND cry. I was thoroughly impressed.
As long as we're already all emotional over here, it's a good time to remind folks about another pretty moving machinema that came out a while back called A Westfall Drama, by Kidsake:
Ok, that was good. However I do think there should be a little more of a consistent thread throughout the thing, the first and second half seem like two completely different videos. The whole telephone thing probably could have been cut out.

Unlike his previous work, this one didn't make me laugh at all. But it was still very good, had me riveted. Got a little misty-eyed at the end.

Not everyone in the interwebz is english native, I enjoyed the subtitles.

Not to speak of deaf people, that's why the sounds have subtitles too.

Man, I don't care what anyone says about Yumfries. I always enjoy his work.

I do too. And it's nice to see someone has made a truly moving piece of WoW machinima.
Which should be a feat of strength considering the fact that it's all about the Lich King adopting a child!

Any other more serious pieces that anyone remembers?

The most recent one that comes to mind is I Am Forsaken.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm really liking the new dramatic machinima titles released as of late.
Just to add, I Am Forsaken should have won first place IMO.

This I really enjoyed. Just skipped right past the looking for humor and took it as a straight up drama.
Made me think of The Professional/Leon.
Well done.
