New Cataclysm battleground brackets unveiled; Arathi, Eye, and Alterac available at lower levels

Well, there's good news -- Blizzard has announced new battleground groups for Cataclysm that will make such frustrating scenarios much less prevalent. Whereas battlegrounds are currently broken up into 10-level groups (the level 10 to 19 bracket, for example), battlegrounds in Cataclysm will be broken up into five-level groups (there's a new level 10 to 14 bracket). The move should "match up teams more evenly," according to the post on Blizzard's website.
As part of an effort to further ease you into the world of PvP, certain battlegrounds are going to be available for play at earlier levels: Arathi Basin can be played as early as level 10, Eye of the Storm is available at 35, and Alterac Valley is available at 45. For those of us with low-level alts sick of running Warsong Gulch, that's welcome news indeed.

This change is very cool. I love how being in the lower end of the bracket means you're not totally useless.
That being said they need to tweek the loot tables a bit to account for the new brackets. I don't mind the loot being every 10 levels but having to wait for until 28 when I started doing AB at lvl 10 until I can buy some of those tasty AB rewards is a bit harsh.
Those boots, so nice.. @.@

Yep this is great. I've always thought this is what they should do and now I guess with the merging of battlegroups they're able to do it.

Great idea... but on the more practical side, I fear that'll mean even longer queues...
Pyromelter Dec 2nd 2010 8:33PM
My queues have actually shortened by quite a great bit, having done bg's in a lot of those lower levels. (Except when the queueing system is all messed up. Which it too often is unfortunately.)

Well, think of it this way - there are now twice as many people who will queue now who wouldn't before because their level made them useless. So it ought to even out!
And I think they've made the battle groups continent-wide now, so that should help even more. It really looks like they are paying a lot of attention to BG PvP this expansion.
The thing that might reduce the number of people queuing is how much better they have made the standard levelling zones & dungeons, but that just means the people who are joining in are the ones who really want to PvP, and not just those who are 'bored of the grind', so I have high hopes.

True. I would never queue till I hit lvl 17 on any alt. I imagine that I will begin queuing at 11 now. Thank you blizz!
WAIT! WHERE'S MA MOOSE!?!?!
Sorithal Dec 2nd 2010 11:45PM
Blizzard's also merging battlegroups (if not all of them together, I think?), so... that'll also reduce the time it takes to queue up.
Plus players will have more incentive to now.

they are gonna make battlegrounds from the whole region now(instead of single battlegroups), so queues should still be faster than it used to be =)

GREAT NEWS!!
I'm most excited for my alts I've been leveling through the new Azeroth. I dreaded doing outland again and really mess the timeline and enjoyment. I now know I'll just be leveling through BG for 60-70!

I'm quite interested to see how a low level EotS would work...
Josin Dec 3rd 2010 8:15AM
I find it ironic that you can BG in a place at 35 that you can't go to until 58.
woshiernog Dec 3rd 2010 1:58PM
There are portals.
ChunkyPenguin Dec 2nd 2010 8:11PM
You guys seems a little late on this, I've already seen these changes and actually placed an AB on my level 10 tauren Pally. But thanks for the heads up for those who didn't know
Dboy Dec 2nd 2010 9:04PM
This.
I even have a vague memory of reading someone's comment about it on WoW Insider... Maybe it was The Instance podcast...
Pyromelter Dec 2nd 2010 8:39PM
Nice to have AV in the mid 40s, and also to be able to do AV from 50-54 without 800 zillion noob death knights dominating you.
Luci Dec 3rd 2010 9:14AM
Yeah, this. Been leveling my mage up in the brackets.
Mcmikhail Dec 2nd 2010 8:12PM
Did the guy who made this change ever queue for a low level bg? This is only gonna make long ass queue times even longer. Not a good change imo.
iammurlocftw Dec 2nd 2010 8:57PM
I queued up for a bg at level 14 on a non call to arms day, 3 minute wait
Mcmikhail Dec 3rd 2010 8:20AM
10-19 = ok
But after that queue times get longer and longer. I remember my level 60ish alt was in the same queue i queue'd for the next day after i went to sleep.
But anyway, sorry for giving my opinion. My repeated bad experiences obviously never happend.

This is very welcome indeed. It should be noted that this is already in game; it went live with 4.0.3a.
