The Queue: We didn't start the fire
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky, senior editor at WoW Insider, will be your host today.
This is a really cute video put together. It's not Grade A machinima in terms of video production quality, but the concept behind it is up there with Blind in its "hey sweet, this is WoW!" quality ... At least in my opinion.
Five days here, folks, then the big event. Let's answer some of your questions.
Furry asked:
Will the limit to number of justice points go up at all as we level or when we hit 85, or will it always be capped at 4,000?
It was capped at 4,000 when I was level 85 in the beta. It's likely the cap will remain. But that shouldn't be a problem, in so much as you can still get the gear you want. You just won't be able to stockpile tons of justice points.
Wreck asked:
How is water combat changing in Cataclysm? After the 10,000th time taking a portal on Dreamwalker last night, the thought occurred to me that I don't want to level in Vashj'ir unless changes are coming.
Water combat feels just like normal combat but with a vertical dimension added in. Vashj'ir isn't bad at all, it's actually a really fun and compelling zone to play through. It'll be the first zone I do in Cataclysm as well, given that I'm expecting everyone to run to Mount Hyjal.
You also get an underwater mount early on, and that provides a lot of utility throughout the zone. It's really an amazing zone, and Blizzard has done an above average job at it. It's like your playing through Echo the Dolphin on WoW, and that's just fracken awesome.
Psychoraven asked:
Will worgen death knights and higher-level characters who race change to worgen be able to learn the Running Wild ability?
Yes.
Szilgyi asked:
Has Blizzard announced if it will change tabards from counting as a normal inventory slot?
For right now, tabards are still taking up an inventory slot. Blizzard has said that it eventually wants to move them to a keyring-based holder, but that's likely not going to happen for a bit.

The Tabard keyring sounds like it would be funny. "Personal closet dimension" or something. But then I guess people would be like "why can't I put anything in there?"
SunGod228 Dec 2nd 2010 1:50PM
I would like to see the tabard go the way of the mounts and companion pets, that would be awesome!
Kesh Dec 2nd 2010 2:06PM
Unfortunately, tabards are wearable items, so they have to be actual items you can place on the character. The pet/mount system works very differently, so I doubt they can make that happen.
Ametrine Dec 2nd 2010 2:13PM
They've said before they'd love to take tabards out as items and make them spells instead, like they did for mounts and minipets, but since some tabards have click-to-use effects, like the Argent Crusader's Tabard and the Tabard of the Protector, it is currently impossible to make them spells like the others, and they don't want to try converting tabards to spells if it means they need to exclude certain tabards so they don't lose their effects.

@Kesh: They can make tabards "work very differently", too, if they want (and they do).

I think I read somewhere they wanted to try and make tabards like the titles in a dropdown menu instead of being wearable. Then they could make the item consumable which would give you the option in the dropdown but also a transport spell for those that have that function.

@Kesh
Nothing in the game is an actual "physical" item. Your gear could just be spells that equip different looks/stats on you. There is no requirement on what can and can't change the appearance of your character.

Here's my solution for the Tabards (including ones with on-use effects):
1. Create a new tabard interface (let's call it the Closet) that is similar to the Mount/Pet interface. In order to add the tabard to the Closet, you would have to use it in a similar manner as the non-combat pets/mounts.
2. When you add a tabard to the Closet, if that tabard has an on-use effect, it would "train" to use the tabard, and be added to your spell book, either under the General tab of the spell book, or under its own "Tabard" tab.
3. In order to use the on-use effect of a tabard, you would have to have the tabard equipped, which could be set up in a way similar to how certain abilities can only be used if you are in a specific stance.
This method solves a couple problems:
1) Removes the tabards from your bags.
2) Allows you to switch tabards in a manner similar to the companion/mounts.
3) Allows you to retain the on-use effects of the tabards.
4) Can have many more restrictions added to the tabards, such as only allowing switching when not in combat, or only allowing the on-use effect when not in combat.

I would LOVE to see an XP tabard that gives you 5% XP bonus per max level character you have. This tabard could be called "Tabard of XPerience".
Nopunin10did Dec 2nd 2010 3:59PM
Though I obviously don't know how Blizzard's system specifically operates, I imagine the simplest solution would to be a tabards-only bag that doesn't take up one of your bag slots. It allows for all the flexibility players desire with their tabards, keeps them as part of your inventory, but doesn't take up "real" inventory space.
So yes, I'd want it to work like the keyring. Maybe call it the Coat Hanger.

Question for the queue:
What is your opinion of hyjacking the first post?
kobelayton Dec 2nd 2010 4:57PM
It should be very simple, give you an extra Bag just like your Backpack. Bound to you, can't un-equip it, and have it be 60 slot or so. Only tabards can go in it. Not to dumb down what the programers do, but it seems to me if they haven't done it by now, they are overthinking the functionality we really need.

Is the daily cooking quest actually good for anything? I've done it with several alts
all I've seen is vendor trash worth maybe 50 copper. Apart from raising the skill level, it seems to have little point if you're maxed level. It seems a lot of work for little gain.
Has anyone found anything good in those bags?
Knob Dec 2nd 2010 1:16PM
I assume you mean daily fishing and not daily cooking? I think for now it's using the WotLK loot-table. Hopefully it'll change to the Cataclysm loot-table after the 7th.
Sarducci Dec 2nd 2010 1:17PM
I assume you mean the Fishing Daily?
tatsumasa Dec 2nd 2010 1:34PM
well, if you buy the crate of meat, you can get cata-level meats that on my server are selling for 35g each to people who want to insta-level their cooking on tues.
Zalvi24 Dec 2nd 2010 1:19PM
i got the fishing hat out of the fishing bag
Flint Dec 2nd 2010 1:21PM
I take it you mean the fishing daily? Looking at WoWHead's loot list for the reward bags, there really isn't anything worth anything outside the occasional potion as well as the fishing hat and minipet you could get from the Dal fishing daily. Which sorta makes sense given that it'd be pretty daft to give the chance to 'win' big sums of gold from a quest you can start taking at level 10, but kinda kills the incentive to do them after max skill for a high-level character..
xvkarbear Dec 2nd 2010 1:21PM
The cooking quest rewards a chef's award that lets you buy cata recipies.
The fishing quest rewards a Bag of Shiny Things which has a chance to drop the weather-beaten fishing hat hat and the strand crawler pet.
Ice Dec 2nd 2010 1:22PM
I assume you meant fishing.
Yeah its totally random. At first day I got http://www.wowhead.com/item=57191 from the bag and sold it for 50g on AH. Either it got hotfixed or it was totally random since I've since got only low level stuff. But it seems to scale.. maybe I just got 81+ loot from it so it is possible it scales with level after we get to 81+.
