Breakfast Topic: Do you collect non-combat armor?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
Gear is a fixture in the World of Warcraft. Your gear plays a huge role in determining your character's combat abilities -- arguably even more than your level -- and high-level gear is often seen as a mark of skill, or at least experience. But there's a lot more than top-tier gear in Blizzard's data banks. Aside from older armor sets, the game is filled with wedding dresses, bloody aprons, monocles, tiaras, rolling pins, fairy wands, and chainmail bikinis. And who could forget the hodgepodge of Outland greens?
The first piece of gear I ever saved in WoW was the Everglow Lantern. I kept it in my bank long after my baby druid outgrew its +3 spirit, just because I liked the way it looked. Then I started keeping odd pieces of neat-looking gear I came across, eventually dressing up my bank alt in the classic Tuxedo set and Diamond-Tipped Cane. Recently, I've graduated to collecting tier 1 while I work on my Hydraxian Waterlords reputation. It's not good for my bank space, but it sure is fun to complete an eight-piece set.
Do you collect old gear or dress-up gear for your characters? Do you ever wear the gear you collect, for roleplaying or screenshots or just around town? What's your favorite distinctive gear item in World of Warcraft?

| Yes, every bit that my inventory can hold! | |

| No -- what's the point? | |
| I would if I had more room in my bank. |

Yes definately.
The aesthetics of WoW play a huge part (imo at least), and gear, not just armoUr, plays a huge part of the aesthetics.
People often call it RP gear, which it doesn't have to be at all, I have 3 bags in my bank dedicated to cool gear, for nostalgia and 'hey this gear set makes me look badass' purposes.

If I like the look of something or it's funny or unique I will usually keep it, BUT I am super running out of room :c
I tend to try to keep the Holiday sets I like most of all since they are hard to come by again, but my bank is completely full and I have no clue how I'm going to empty my bags to level for cataclysm.
Blizzard really, really needs some kind of vanity closet, I would keep a lot more stuff (including all of my old tier sets) if it were available.
Sometimes it's fun to just look badass for the hell of it

I found this link quit interesting explaining the reasons why there is a difference between the British Armour and the American Armor.

Since you made it a point to spell it armoUr.

I don't RP but I do collect gear that I think looks cool or suits the character. I do so in the hopes that one day Blizzard will implement a "vanity" or "outfit" system that lets you display whatever armour you want.

I currently have 71 dresses on my main. The dress in the picture, when it was ultra-rare cost 900 gold to get. I do fashion shows once in a while for guildies, I've even had some people ask me for some screenshots of my collection.

My Rogue has 17 dresses. He's very proud of the fact that none of them have any stats on them. Except for the Lovely Purple Dress that somehow ended up with +50 health.

Bloodail clothing. I've put it on an automated set in Itemrack just to show of in cities^^

That's the same set that I like, too. However, I was recently fortunate enough to have the First Mate Hat drop for me while I was questing in Northern Stranglethorn, so I swapped that into my outfit, in place of the Bloodsail Admiral's Hat (it looks like Fleet Master Firallon's hat).
The other outfit I like is my pirate outfit but with no shirt and the Gnomish Turban of Psychic Might. When I was still a tailor, I would wear that and fly around on a flying carpet mount, pretending to be Aladdin or something.
I've given up on keeping old tier sets -- now I just collect the helms of each set I've gone through, because I just don't have the space for more.

The poll needs a "sometimes" or "it depends" option. ^_^
For me, it depends on the character I'm playing. I'll often have a 'casual' outfit for my various alts, something to put on when I'm hanging out with friends instead of questing or doing things that I need my gear for. For my mage, it's the tux, complete with black rose offhand. For my DK, it's the black pantsuit from the Lunar Festival, along with two glowing swords I got while working on Argent Dawn rep and an eyepatch. For my new human hunter, it's what I refer to as Tier 0.01, the nifty-looking leather set you get over the course of doing all the quests in a low-level zone.
Of course, now that I have even more alts than before, it means I now have even more outfits to find... I'm okay with this.

Also needs a "Used to" option.
When I was raiding on my hunter, we had a quite a bit of cloth dropping that nobody needed. I'd sub a crystal and keep the armor.
Mostly 277 gear, some 264. Really confused people when they see someone wearing cloth and holding a Fal'inrush.

I have a "teleport/utility" set I'm working on. Got the BT necklace, the water-breathing fishing pole and the slowfall trinket, now I need a Dalaran ring.

Gosh, my wife does.
Her banker has many elaborate outfits. Most are pretty classy looking. Her main even has a super hero outfit.
I have my PvE/PvP sets, and then the only other set worth having: Mah birthday suit.
Duulket Dec 3rd 2010 8:12AM
Most of what I collect is the holiday clothes. I do have a few non holiday sets but not many.
Itzamna Dec 3rd 2010 8:16AM
Ugh, this whole equipment collection thing is so pointless, so distracting and so time-consuming but SO ADDICTIVE WHYDOILOVEITSOMUCH D=
kklsid Dec 3rd 2010 8:20AM
Yes. Not that much in the past, but since I stopped raiding now (I want to play other MMOs as well, so it's a time issue), even more.
The "best" gear is not really the "best looking" gear anyway.
Brevalaer Dec 3rd 2010 8:22AM
Definitely, certainly and absolutely yes.
My warlock walks around the town dressed like an elementary school teacher in a somber black-and-white skirt and blouse... and keeps half a dozen other outfits to suit any occasion, from evening dresses to farmer overalls.
I firmly believe that WoW would greatly benefit from an "appearance" tab similar to the one they have in LotRO.
B.J. Dec 3rd 2010 8:22AM
I definitely would if I had the room.
As it is, my inventory feels full just with having a ret and holy gear set on my Paladin.
Back in Star Wars Galaxies, I usually had 4 or 5 outfits going for various moods, plus my armour set for combat.
I miss the days of having gear sets just for looks around town. But with bag space limits, I just can't afford that precious inventory space.
loop_not_defined Dec 3rd 2010 10:18AM
The majority of my aesthetic clothes are Holiday items, since the window for acquiring them is so tiny. I'm hoping Blizzard comes up with a system to make them available without taking up bag space...because I really, REALLY want to collect non-Holiday armor. I just don't have the space to do so.
Jack Dec 3rd 2010 8:25AM
When I changed my Banker Alt to my 80 Warlock, I gave him the full Twill Set I have had since Vanilla WOW. Still my favorite looking non-combat cloth set. :)
Eamara Dec 3rd 2010 8:27AM
I've kept all the ranged weapons my Hunter has used over the years, plus some I went out of my way to collect/picked up in a raid when nobody else wanted it (tank guns ftw).
I also like to keep a hold of tier gear, because those are the items which evoke memories. The T5 helm reminds me of one of the best fights in WoW, Lady Vashj. :D Plus others!
