News of a new novel from Christie Golden trickled into our tip line this evening. The novel
World of Warcraft: Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects appeared on Amazon.com a few days ago. This novel, which continues a longstanding tradition of too many colons in one book title, is very likely a direct followup to the recently released
The Shattering.
We're likely to see deeper exploration of Thrall's intentions and motivations in
Cataclysm, some of which was alluded to by Chris Metzen
at BlizzCon 2010's lore panel. Could Go'el, son of Durotan, be Azeroth's next Aspect of Earth? Probably, yes!

Hmm.....
Interesting. I'm very curious as to what Blizzard has in store for Thrall.
bobalobabingbong Dec 4th 2010 7:07AM
Something awesome I'm sure. Thrall has a great destiny I think.
Nawaf Dec 4th 2010 10:28AM
I definitely don't want him to end up being the aspect of the earth.
Thrall is an orc. They are from Draenor. How can he, an orc, become one of the aspects of Azeroth?
Eric J. Dec 4th 2010 10:49AM
Maybe because he's from Draenor, he can more strongly resist the whisperings of the Old Gods. Or maybe just because he's that awesome.

Seeing as the title connects Thrall with 'Aspects' don't see how this can not be the story of how Thrall becomes the new Aspect of Earth. Me likey.
As for Thrall being from Draenor etc. ... The orcs are pretty much inhabitants of Azeroth by now. The Aspects, the Titans' representatives sort of, seem to accept them and deal with them repeatedly. They helped defeat the Legion in the Third War. One of their kind did his part in defeating the Legion 10,000 years ago (Knaak but still official lore). They have earned their right to stay there and especially Thrall has never shown anything but the utmost respect to the planet. Even if not the orcs, he at least has earned his stay.
I don't know if it has been stated officially or only been speculated or whatever (think it might actually be 'official' in the CoT: Opening of the Dark Portal, quests).... but a popular opinion is that without the orcs there would have been no war.
There would not have been an Alliance.
There would not have been two powerful forces/armies ready to fend off the Burning Legion but only the people of the Humans, the Night Elves etc.
None of them even remotely prepared for a war against the Legion.
The state of militarisation Azeroth is in is because of the Orcs and it's sort of sad yes, but it was necessary for without it Azeroth would have already been destroyed by the Legion.
The orcs were necessary for Azeroth to survive and they paid their right to stay in blood (regardless of their relationship with the Alliance, this concerns the planet), especially Thrall.

Ah, the bounty hunter I sent against Richard Knaak apparently worked. Wow.

Hello 'SaintStryfe' I'm Michael. I'm with the FBI. We're going to need to have a word with you regarding the recent death of one Richard Knaak.

For the Horde!
Alliance may have had a wanna-be Goku but we have(had) and Aspect!
Eat it!
"What can the Alliance say when they hear the horde yell out 'For the Horde!' ?"
"Have mercy?"

It's a game... you take so much pride with your fictional faction? How pathetic.
NielsdeJONG Dec 4th 2010 3:42AM
Goku? Your comparing Varian Wrynn to a overpowered anime character while Warcrafts number one mary sue is Thrall?
Serieusly, for all the remarks that have been done against Rhonin, I find it amusing that you Horde fanboys don't have them against Thrall :)
At least Varian Wrynn has some motivation and sence of humanity in him :) No offence to Thrall fans, but ever since Vanillia came out, he has become a complete wuss and idiot.
Does he do anything against the cutting of lumber in Ahenvale? No!
Does he stop the Forsaken from experimenting on the HUMANS in the undercity? No!
Does his elite guard even mind that their doing that righ under their noses? No!
He is either an incompetent Idiot, or someone who keeps talking about peace to a faction for which he hasn't shown the slightest amount of regard for their lives!
So I'm sorry to say this, but either Thrall gets some balls and starts making sure that his Horde is no longer invading Alliance territory, or he can go back to cripton and blow himself and the rest of his people there to pieces to prevent more incompetent mary sues from leaking into Azeroth.
Heck, it would be the first good thing he has done since Warcraft 3 :)

Chances are if Thrall does indeed become the new aspect of earth then he will become neutral at least in the game. Look at some of the more powerful lore figures such as Malfurion for instance who is now neutral even in Darnassus, which is lame when an FTH comes through looking to kill Tyrande and he just stands there while she's dying.
Also if Thrall didn't become neutral then what fun would that be for the Horde to have basically a deus ex machina, a giant "I WIN" button if you will in the form of Thrall? How could the Alliance even go up against Thrall as an aspect if he decided to turn his new found powers and status against them? I think if Thrall did stay with the Horde and remained hostile with the Alliance then that would just potentially end up with the Alliance players becoming even more demoralized and sucking the fun out of the game for them, or at the least cause even more people to jump ship and switch factions. I don't know but I do think Blizzard and especially Metzen have to be careful with where their taking this lest they want a lot more people calling foul and calling them out on being extremely biased to the Horde. Also more players like Dee will speak out with their anti Alliance sentiment and end up taking it way to far and out right flame the players of the Alliance, we see that so much now as it is but it would just escalate even more.

Guys Guys, I'm just having some fun. There is no need to take things so seriously. I thought everyone wanted to start the whole war thing going again? I'm confused.
Anyways, as far as the Goku comment I was referring to Varian's Hairstyle. Yes I may get flack for that but I'm just one of those people that dislikes the whole spiky hair makes you awesome trend. ((Yes I do not play blood elfs)).
And @NielsdeJONG I agree that "recently" he has become a Mary Sue with the Shattering and that whole deal in Outland, but I have to say that Varian > Thrall as far as faction leaders go. I mean sure Varian has some "motivation" but I personally never like Varian and how they tried so hard to give the Alliance someone they could ...idk "look up too". That's just me tho. Thrall may not be perfect, and like someone said in a previous article, the writer has a tendency to have a lot of Mary Sues in WoW, but at least he was acting like a leader the whole time. Yeah he may have neglected some stuff but things get out of control. Anyways...I was just having some fun. I guess I'll just have to take posting on this site as srsbusiness...8(

I love me some lore like the next guy, but this is gettin' super nerdy...
...and when you make nerds uncomfortable with your nerdness, you have crossed a line.
Mperiolat Dec 3rd 2010 8:57PM
With all due respect, it can't be Thrall. He's not from Azeroth, he's from Draenor. Plus, we've never seen evidence of the orcs being a Titan creation.
Sorry, but the new earth warden is going to be something or someone else.
WGSXFrank Dec 3rd 2010 9:03PM
You forget that Azeroth is full of wizards.
Wizards can make ANYTHING happen.
The term "A wizard did it" is about to become canon. You heard it here first!
Elunr Dec 3rd 2010 9:18PM
Isn't everything a titan creation?
But i do agree about the thing of him being from Draenor.
Eternauta Dec 3rd 2010 9:38PM
IIRC, not all life was created by the Titans. The Nathrezim (or "Dread Lords"), the Eredar, and the Trolls are known exceptions.
Also, Dragon's existed on Azeroth before the Titans' arrival. who just "empowered" five of them to be the protectors of the world in their absence (and look how that turned out... GG Titans)
