And now for something sublime and soothing. We're going to need it with all the expansion excitement tomorrow. Sentinel Hill by EmberIsolte and TheGreyFoo is a beautiful piece of work. The music is wonderfully put together, and TheGreyFoo's video absolutely underscores EmberIsolte's haunting vocals.
The song and video tell the story of a Westfall woman whose love has gone off to fight in distant lands. It's especially poignant now, when Deathwing's attack forces all the soldiers back home. They may have defeated the Lich King, but the real danger is a little south now. The Alliance and Horde were supposed to return to a hero's welcome; instead, the struggle is merely continuing. I don't know, she looked awfully young to be the mother of a grown soldier. And there is a line where she talked about 'the fields where we played." I got the impression they were children together, grew up, and then married. AFter all, it is possible to make a human model who would look older than this woman.
It's a great video, the only downside I see is her pronunciation of Sentinel Hill in the beginning, "Sen-Ten-El Hill", I wonder if it's for the rhyme, because she gets it right later.
I was expecting another cookie-cut hip-hop song. I am so glad that is not what I received. The vocals are a lot better than I thought they would be, and I especially love the chorus with the male and female dueting.
The only thing that marred this for me was that I wondered why she didn't follow him. Very beautiful vocals, and the composition of the images suited it. The scenes flowed quickly, but they didn't jar.
As the blogger said, just what we need on the eve of the expansion.
This is the best musical machinima that I have seen in a long while. This kind of stuff needs a lot more appreciation from the fans than the belf cr-..I mean rap.
Man, from the description and the way it started, I thought it was going to be a video depicting a man going off to fight for the Alliance, only to move from engagement to engagement, finally to return home only when the war has hit us in the heart. The video was great but what I expected, to me, would be so much better. It could start off with him riding off to fight in some classic places, then show him receiving orders to ship off to the Outlands, and from there the orders come to face the new threat in Northrend, and when victory is secured there, and it's time to return home, he gets his orders once again, he's going home, but there's been a cataclysm. You can go either way with it, tragic, where he finds his loved one dead, or you could go with empowering where he returns to her side, but the cataclysm has made everyone a soldier, and she is outfitted in priestly garb as they stand side by side looking to the horizon of their devastated world.
It's to bad it's going to be nearly impossible to get new footage of the classic world. Oh well. If anyone wants to steal that idea I'd love to see it =P. Cool video.
@Slaign:You know, that's true. Deathwing has made everyone a soldier. There was a bit of a sense of that with this video, with the montage of various Alliance heroes, and the first shot of the priest during that part I at first thought was the female in the video, either now or in her youth (going on the "it's his mother" bandwagon).
One thing I would have changed though; I doubt she'd have been a priest. It's a bit TOO cliche, and besides, she's from Westfall too. That's Rogue country.
Probably having a 3-year-old made this more poignant, but damn it made me cry. The video was very well done, showing the progression in a very nice effect. Growing up through Tanaris/Dark Portal/Honor Hold, on to Northrend, etc. It was a little unclear if some of the Tier characters were supposed to be her son, or if it was only the guard at various stages.
Still, great concept, growing up, growing strong, but far away from your family.

Man, I'm sure im the only one who will find that creepy, really well done, but creepy.
Jawbone Dec 6th 2010 12:18PM
The song's lyrics suggest that it is his mother that is singing.

+1
I got the impression this was not a romantic relationship, but rather a mother watching her son go off to war.
raingod Dec 6th 2010 12:47PM
Agreed. The boy growing up into the man also suggests this.
Alassiel Dec 6th 2010 3:31PM
Agreed. It definitely implies a maternal relationship; as do the scenes of the boy growing up, and mention of her child.

Usually, I'm not a fan of female wow vocals, but this one was done beautifully.
