Cataclysm is live ... except not quite [updated]

Experiences seem to vary from server to server, so don't panic if you're not able to log in. You're not alone, and the problem's not on your end. We'll provide updates here and provide you with news as it develops.
Update (12:30 a.m. PST): It appears that XP gains have now been turned on. Happy leveling!
Update (12:54 a.m. PST): Blue poster Bashiok has confirmed on the official forums that XP gains are on universally, so long as you read "not" as "now." The official Blizzard customer service Twitter account says XP gains are active as well.

Yea, same here... I turned in 24 dailies at 5 after the hour (accidentally turned in 1 earlier in the day). Missed out on about 2 full blocks of XP. /big sigh

I can confirm, unable to log into any character. Can get into the toon selection screen, and select a character, but as soon as the blue loading bar is completely filled, the viewer quits out and the error send box comes up.
I've sent in 2 error reports cos I tried a heavy character (my rigged 80) and a light one ( my bank). Same result, so it wasn't anything related to a timeout.

My account has been temporarily disabled according to the login screen. It gives a link but ofc its broken cause of the new website... anyone know wtf is up? I wanna roll my worgen :(

All goes silent on WoWInsider as everyone plays WoW. Guess I get to enjoy the soundtrack from my CE of Cataclysm, and get through my exams listening to this awesome music.

More seriously I would say when there are massive changes, there are going to be huge impacts.
Though IIRC, when I got on to WOLK on opening day, it was evening and it was really smooth except Borean Tundra General had replaced Trade as the idiot chat

Not being able to gain XP I believe was related to having to fully exit the game (not just logout and login), as we were all instructed to do.

European experience: it took about 20 minutes to log in, then another 20 minutes to get to the character selection screen. After that, all went well. Don't abort or retry if you have no error message!
And don't forget to see your trainers before you set out for the new zones!

Logged in perfectly fine, was the first one in Vashjir.. Unfortunately there is 6 seconds of delay between doing anything and seeing it happen.
