I find the most revealing lore not in the Gilneans' history, but their design aesthetic.
I wonder how many people have noticed the whole Victorian quality of Gilneas-- the architecture of the buildings, omnipresent English rain, the moors, rose arbors, British accents, tailcoats, tophats, monocles and lace. I almost expected to see Sherlock Holmes or Jack-the-Ripper references leaping out at me.
And I imagine that these Gilneans, being so Victorianesque, must have a healthy sense of sophistication, cultural superiority, civic pride, duty and self-control-- like Dr. Jekyll.
So can you imagine how they must feel when they find themselves mutating into fantasy versions of Mr. Hyde?
