The Daily Quest: Level 85 and loving it

WoW Insider's on a Daily Quest to bring you interesting, informative and entertaining WoW-related links from around the blogosphere.
The giant sinkhole pictured above represents the amount of time I've poured into Cataclysm so far -- and I haven't even gotten around to playing with archaeology yet. The climb to 85 is a relatively quick and painless one, but handy hints and advice along the way are always useful. Today, we've got a few helpful links for aspiring level 85s out there:
- Sunfyre's Nest complied a really nice list of pre-raid BIS gear for boomkin to collect.
- HoTs and DoTs has an excellent guide for shadow priests wondering about DoTs and haste.
- Falling Leaves and Wings has a couple guides on getting Grid ready for The Throne of the Four Winds and the Bastion of Twilight.

My CE still hasn't arrived either :( Apparently has been "in transit" since the 6th now ...
At least we have the revamped Azeroth to play around in while we wait!

I'm still waiting on mine, too. Funny enough, I ordered something after it with a worse shipping option and it arrived before Cataclysm did. NOT HAPPY.

More link stories like this! Where are all the other class/spec BIS lists?
Linearcitrus Dec 10th 2010 9:45AM
On the internet, where these are.

Not sure when but it will have the words 'Don't Panic' in large, friendly letters on the cover...

Is that the guide written by Brady? It's out, got my copy bundled with the CE.

I'm a bit shocked by how fast the 80-85 leveling is going; I certainly wouldn't want to spend 6 months on it, but something akin to the 60-70 and 70-80 brackets of past expansions was pretty reasonable to me - hitting 85 2-3 days after launch feels a bit cheap.

4 amazing new zones, a completely redesigned world, a new PvP zone, genuinely challenging 5 man content, and several new raids already available at launch with tons more coming in future patches. There is so much to consume that I definitely don't feel like I got cheated by "only" spending 2 days of almost non stop questing to get to 85.
Lloren Dec 10th 2010 10:37AM
*5 new zones.

First level 80 was 13 hours after WotLK release. :p
Artificial Dec 10th 2010 1:25PM
Correction, that wasn't actually the first, but it was a record for quickest 70-80 shortly after WotLK release.
Cyrus Dec 10th 2010 1:42PM
The quickest level 70 was within 28 hours of the release of BC.

I recall Blizzard saying that the 80 to 85 leveling experience would take the same amount of time as leveling from 70 to 80. Based on what I've seen so far, and from my friends' experiences, that doesn't seem true at all. In fact, it feels very much like the time it takes to level from 70 to 75. I'm not complaining, mind you, as I know there is plenty of other new content to experience in this expansion, and frankly, I have too many alts that need to get to 85 in the shortest time possible.

Sigh with having to work every day I've only been able to get to 83 thus far. Yet with the weekend I believe 85 is in reach!
Also Archeology is kind of a new little profession, but it is fairly slow going.

I know what you mean...I was a day late getting the expansion and I am only 81 right now, I'm having lots of fun with the quests so far aside from gaining little to no rep with The Earthen Ring..I want that tabard..But I only really get to play a couple hours a night. Hopefully I won't get left in the dust like I did with Wrath.

I'd be really interested to know how long it would take a 'normal' person, ie someone with a job and commitments (essentially a life ) to get to 85.. I logged in on Monday and there were people at the level cap flying around Orgrimmar already?? Do we think Blizzard did this intentionally to allow raiders to get on with business and folk that enjoy leveling to re-roll and play through the 1-60 revamped content to get their 2 years worth of play.
Artificial Dec 10th 2010 1:28PM
Well, lots of people were at the level cap on Monday, since it was 80. As for flying around Org on Monday, the day before the expansion was released... hax? :p

You will get used to it so much got chugged the new points system sucks
For new players they will love it for older players think of it as new game

Here's a protip for Uldum. Kill the buzzards in the Cradle of Ancients before finishing the Harrison Jones questline. It's amazingly frustrating to do once that chain of quests is completed.
