SleepingWilly made this movie to commemorate one area of Azeroth that was not changed by the Cataclysm. There are no ruins, no dragon marks, and nothing to remind us of what was lost. Thus, SleepingWilly made this movie In Memory of Zul'Gurub.
It's about five minutes of surprisingly tranquil, beautiful footage of the lost raid instance. If you're new to WoW or just never had a chance to visit this raid, check out the movie and enjoy a monument to what has gone before. We may never be able to visit Zul'Gurub again, but at least we'll have this movie to remind us. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
Without divulging any spoilers, the new ZG quests in Northern Stranglethorn seem to indicate something future is to come with the area. Perhaps a new 5 man or even a new raid in a future patch?
i still miss it. it was a great raid instance. when i heard we would be questing in there, i was happy. i didn't realize it was just one quest. while it was fun, its was a poor substitute for something so awesome. ZG represents the time when Blizzard really hit their stride in making raid content challenging but accessible, and rolled into a really fun package.
Remember doing that when it was brand new on my hunter. Pulling the sons of hakkar to the group so we would all get poisoned was a fun job. Though what was more fun was sneaking my way through solo at level 60 to tame one of them :) I will miss ZG I'm having to take a break do to travel overseas and was unable to go on a final run before it went away =/ But still have the good old memories.
...and then you remember the axe-throwers, and the nostalgic feelings are replaced with "good riddance!". Oh my god, the axe-throwers.
Strange to put in Night Elf forest and Northrend music in there.
I would have liked to see "before and after" shots. Quite a few buildings are completely different. Hakkar's altar is completely different. (I guess they rebuilt it as a tomb?) Paggle Point is completely gone. Not just submerged in water, but all traces of it erased. Seems there was a landslide in the area where the tiger boss was. I'm guessing quite a bit happened between the death of Hakkar and what we see today.
I once looked past the instance portal using Eagle Eye and what we see now in Zul'Gurub is exactly what I saw then. So they just removed the instance, the non-instanced area hasn't changed, except maybe the big wall around the whole thing.
As far as the possible location of future content, it seems far fetched, but I wonder if we will see an Old God here. I remember seeing diagrams of their potential locations (in the shape of a pentagram, go figure). Zul'Gurub fell exactly in line with it.
I didn't keep any of the armor or the trinket. I thought about it, but I didn't like the look of the armor, the trinket isn't visible, and most importantly: I already keep so many soulbound items that I couldn't afford it.
I also have all 3 feats of strength to replace my trinket, and those don't take up inventory space. I managed to get exalted with only about a month of solo farming, without even clearing all the mobs. (For some reason the raid lockout is STILL shown on my in-game calendar. DUN-DUN-dunnn!)
Never got either mount or the pet.
I DID keep a huge amount of weapons though (with unique 3D model not reused anywhere so far!), including ones I couldn't equip, in some ridiculous hope that one day they would be changed to BoA and I could give the cool snake-motif items to a druid or shaman alt. Too bad I never got the 2nd fist weapon that turns you into a weretiger on proc. I also didn't get the glowing green sword from Hakkar that I really wanted. (Oh. Looking at the comments, I see the green glow was nerfed long ago. Now I'm relieved.) But I did get Jin'rohk (despite there being a new superior version of it coming out through archeology), a spear, a pair of 1H swords, two shields, and the bat boss' hammer. (I love the snake theme on some of these like the shield off Hakkar. MUST HAVE.)

I thought you could still go back there, just no mobs.
Avan Dec 10th 2010 12:46PM
You can in fact go back there and see no mobs. It's a little bit eerie.

There are actually some new quests in Northern Stranglethorn that take you to Zul'Gurub. They're pretty fun, too.

Anyone else that's done the quests will (maybe) understand what I'm saying, and I will try to make it as vague as possible for the ones that haven't.
I WANT IT BACK! :(

There is also a quests from the Cape of Stranglethorn that port you there. The mobs are all appropriate for level 30s.

I almost completed the Zul'Gurub set on my blog character (Risia, Forsaken Warrior). She'll hold on to them, along with her Fiery Retributer (http://www.wowhead.com/item=19968) and her badge (http://www.wowhead.com/item=19948), as a reminder of times past.
Also, if you see a troll druid named Zanzalar from Proudmoore, that's me too ;)

They should just turn it into a Troll city, with trainers/bank/auction house etc.
Either that or bring it back as a level 85 10-man
