Breakfast Topic: Who will be the ultimate boss encounter of WoW?

Illidan. Arthas. Deathwing. Gamon?
In WoW, we kill a lot of things. From x number of boars to 10,000-year-old, demon-juiced night elves, we gear up for and defeat just about everything that comes our way, assuming we can stay out of the fire. But at some point, even WoW, as with all good things, must come to an end.
Both for the game and for players in the game, a last boss will almost certainly arrive. For me, the last boss was simple: Arthas, the Lich King. As players, we've been following his rise, fall, and next rise for years. We watched him succumb to the dark side -- queue evil laugh -- and fall from his perch as a hero of Light into a twisted master of undeath. Then he taunted us throughout the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Finally, we vanquished him, fulfilling years of adventure.
Unfortunately for my ideal ending, I still enjoy and want to continue playing the game. Now we have Deathwing flying around, killing folks. Will he be the fated endgame boss? More Old Gods, maybe? Or perhaps even the Titans themselves will come back to purge the world of our meddling.
Who do you think should be the last boss of WoW? Do you think there will be a last boss?

If you kill the last boss of the warcraft universe, there would be nothing to fight for in the _war_craft universe.
But I would say Sargeras.
Ozmodius Dec 14th 2010 8:39AM
I agree. Sargeras is the most likely candidate from current WoW lore.
Mr. Tastix Dec 14th 2010 8:53AM
Yup, I agree with this.
Big bad Burning Legion dude that started all this crap in the first place (We could blame the Night Elves but I like them!).
Either him or one of the Old Gods. Though if lore is anything to go by, if we kill all the Old Gods then we run the risk of Azeroth imploding in upon itself due to the Old Gods being so entwined with the planet itself.
Screw it. LET ME AT THE BIG BAD DEMON DUDE!
Boz Dec 14th 2010 8:59AM
Sargeras did not "start all this crap."
Sargeras despaired at the seemingly limitless evil manifestations spawned by the Twisting Nether, particularly the Nathrezim. His aggression is just his way of lashing out to express his overwhelming depression at his inability to eradicate the evil that pervades the universe. What this tells us is that, while Sargeras is the current antagonist in the Warcraft universe, there is still plenty of evil awaiting us in the shadows even if we were to off him.
Personally I think Sargeras just needs the love of a good woman, but that is another Breakfast Topic.

Agreed. Quote:
"
Neilson: Sargeras is still kicking around. You can’t put him down.
Metzen: He’s out there somewhere.
Neilson: He’s not going to stay down for long.
Metzen: Yeah totally. And I think the hooks we had for his physical body, wherever it may be are so visually stunning that I think we have to… it’s like low hanging fruit, we’re going to have to bring him back somewhere. I’d be very disappointed in us if we didn’t leverage him fully.
Medievaldragon: He would be like the ultimate encounter.
Neilson: Hmm… yes.

@Boz
Oh good gravy, that reminds me of all the woman you hear about who send letters to convicts and fall in love....
"Oh sure he murdered that entire family, but deep down he just needs some loooovee!"
...I think at this point Sargeras is past the 'saving' point.
loop_not_defined Dec 14th 2010 10:13AM
Yeah...you have to remember that Sargeras came to Azeroth because the Old Gods wanted him to. While it's hard to argue the Old Gods of Azeroth will be the ultimate boss (two down, one to go?), I'm betting there's some Ultimate Old God out in the Twisting Nether.
Or it's just the Twisting Nether itself that screws everybody up.
Docseuzz Dec 14th 2010 10:30AM
Based on almost all raids to date... it's obvious that the final boss of WoW will be.....
The floor.
It's probably killed more players than anything else... :)

"Either him or one of the Old Gods. Though if lore is anything to go by, if we kill all the Old Gods then we run the risk of Azeroth imploding in upon itself due to the Old Gods being so entwined with the planet itself."
Well, in that case, the game would be over, thus making that the final encounter of them all :)

"I'm betting there's some Ultimate Old God out in the Twisting Nether."
This wouldn't surprise me at all. The Algalon fight text seems to imply that Old God corruption is a relatively routine thing and not at all unique to Azeroth. If he's any indication, the Titans are off trying to hold back a more universal Old God menace.
Given the trouble that the ones on Azeroth have given us, I imagine that rooting out the source of an infestation spanning many worlds would be a heck of an ultimate boss.
Scooter Dec 14th 2010 11:07AM
All wrong.
Sargeras will be the last boss on Azeroth because it's going to explode at the end of the fight when he physically rips all of the old gods out of the planet. At the last second the other titans are going to arrive and whisk away fragments of the planet with our respective cultures on them before they are obliterated and stick them into the new planet they've been working on which is a hop skip and a jump from the Dranaei home world.
We'll be introduced to new demi-gods with their own set of problems. A new dark portal will be formed to once again travel to Outland and we will finally be playing the new secret MMO we've been hearing about for the last couple years. World of Warcraft 2!
The first expansion pack is the arrival of Jim Raynor and him just murdering everything in sight.

Ghostcrawler.

The last boss, if it is to ultimately end the game, should be an epic encounter involving all the major world powers. After battling a very close, nearly evenly-matched fight, the players (us) should lose, and watch as the world is torn apart by the evil powers which we and the world leaders fought so heroically. and:
(a) As the world is torn apart, and all is consumed by the ultimate evil, one gleam of hope should be seen on the horizon in the midst of all the darkness...
or
(b) The evil power fades with azeroth, leaving nothing but the twisting nether left. And one spark of hope yada yada see option a
Kaz Dec 14th 2010 1:30PM
Yeah, Sargeras was my first thought when it comes to WoW's end boss.
However knowing the dev team he'll probably be the final boss on normal, but on heroic we'll have to fight the supreme old god that we find had corrupted his soul or something. And it will have the face of GC, but made entirely of fire and feasting on QQ.
And then when we get its health to 20% it switches to its second form: Hogger. Yes the ultimate evil in the universe has been with us all along, but its not the same old Hogger that was just toying with our corpses. No. this is the super-powerful that was shown at Blizzcon.
DoubleCrit Dec 14th 2010 2:01PM
The final boss is going to be in the next wow expansion. Blizzard is already working on it's next gen MMO named Titan. That may well be a code name but most of the original wow dev team has moved to this new MMO already. Heck even the game timeline leaked shows Titan being launched in 3 years from now at the end cycle of the next expansion.
A few years after Titan launches the wow population will shrink and servers will consolidated until there is maybe 2 servers per realm. After the total wow subscription base gets below a number all accounts will be closed.
It won't matter cause we will all be playing Blizzard's new MMO.

Boz you must not remember that they retconned Sargeras story. He no longer turned evil on account of the evils out there. He's the one to turn the eredar evil, not the other way around.
Mortis Dec 14th 2010 2:25PM
I agree the last boss would have to be Sargeras
halophoenix Dec 14th 2010 3:23PM
Sargeras - I mean Hogger. Yep. Hogger. (Seriously, I'm on board with Sargeras.)
Phaelan Dec 14th 2010 3:32PM
@DoubleCrit
Titian is a new IP, Blizzard has already said this. and it's a MMOFPS not RPG. the new MMO will NOT be Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo based.
Amnesiatic Dec 14th 2010 6:28PM
You're all wrong!
It's Mankriks wife.
