Breakfast Topic: Who will be the ultimate boss encounter of WoW?

Illidan. Arthas. Deathwing. Gamon?
In WoW, we kill a lot of things. From x number of boars to 10,000-year-old, demon-juiced night elves, we gear up for and defeat just about everything that comes our way, assuming we can stay out of the fire. But at some point, even WoW, as with all good things, must come to an end.
Both for the game and for players in the game, a last boss will almost certainly arrive. For me, the last boss was simple: Arthas, the Lich King. As players, we've been following his rise, fall, and next rise for years. We watched him succumb to the dark side -- queue evil laugh -- and fall from his perch as a hero of Light into a twisted master of undeath. Then he taunted us throughout the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Finally, we vanquished him, fulfilling years of adventure.
Unfortunately for my ideal ending, I still enjoy and want to continue playing the game. Now we have Deathwing flying around, killing folks. Will he be the fated endgame boss? More Old Gods, maybe? Or perhaps even the Titans themselves will come back to purge the world of our meddling.
Who do you think should be the last boss of WoW? Do you think there will be a last boss?

For those who have played the franchise for a while, Deathwing has been a part of the story in one form or another since WC2... a recognizable name to be sure, event to me, who skipped out on WC3. As is Cho'Gall. Certainly Deathwing has been around causing problems since before Arthas - and I don't mean in out-of-game lore, I mean in Warcraft games.

Yes I'm aware that he's been around cause issues look at his children for gods sake, but that doesn't make me give a rats ass about killing him. I've killed both his kids and I had fun doing that. Deathwing himself however I don't care about killing, yeah he just ripped the world a new one and is in fact an asshole but that doesn't make me care. I find I am missing the drive I usually have which is to murder the ever loving shit outta the "end boss" for the expansion for ruining my day, but so far thats missing, we'll see if the game can make me care or if I'll just wonder through this expansion doing things not related to raiding or gear or any of the normal things I might care about.

Bui, to be honest from what you have said it sounds like the apathy is relative to you as opposed to being a fault with the game. From my perspective I never felt like I had much reason to go after Illidan or Arthas beyond what threat they may become or avenging a grievance of people long dead. With Deathwing however, he ripped my world apart. He did something so massive in the here and now that I feel very strongly about murdering "the ever loving shit" out of him. I mean as motivation goes, there is a giant sweeping vortex of doom where my house, wife and children should be, kinda ranks up there.

Bui, you're an idiot if you think Deathwing was "just tossed back in" to the game. Deathwing has been hinted at as being a far greater threat than any of the previous bosses in all 3 previous incarnations of the game.
People aren't downvoting you because you don't like Deathwing. They're downvoting you because you don't know what you're talking about.

@ bui...
Actually, you got downvoted because of your negative attitude, rampant use of inappropriate language, and name-calling.
If you can't support your points or maybe just restate that it's your opinion, go do something else for a while and calm down.
It's only a forum about a game. If it's making you this upset, you ought to go do something that makes you happy for a while.

Exactly, we just don't downvote people we don't like. We downvote stupid people. Though usually they're the same people.

If you need motivation to kill Deathwing do th the Twilight Highlands quests (if you haven't done so already). It's not my intention to give anything away, but there's a certain fight scene at the end that certainly got ME all riled up to kill him.

Has to be Sargeras. If there's anything more powerful than him, gearing up to take it down would mean we'd be able to one-shot planets in quest greens. And that just ain't right.

Iirc sargeras was a champion of good in the beginning and was corrupted by all the evil he saw in the universe. Which means there has to be something out there that is even more wicked than him.
So there's no reason for me to think that sargeras is the end of all endings.
Adegan Dec 14th 2010 8:26AM
Pretty much has to be Sargeras.

Gamon and Hogger will team up and DESTROY THE WORLD (of Warcraft).
Ramago Dec 14th 2010 8:38AM
Sargeras is the last boss of WoW, the creator of the Burning Leagion who has tried time and time again to conquer this world. The fallen Titan.
HomeBrewer Dec 14th 2010 8:38AM
Darth Vader. Of course, this would coincide with the release of SWTOR...
In all seriousness, if they are projecting the game will go on for 20+ years, then there is no chance of an end-boss. The glory of a fantasy world is its ability to create. We will never run out of boar hides to collect, professions to advance, stuff to upgrade, and psychopathic tyrant leaders to destroy. If Blizzard said, "we're done."
I think the most compelling ending for me would involve something turning Thrall against Azeroth. While I would be upset if this happened, it would be a compelling, though tragic, end.
Polecat Dec 14th 2010 8:38AM
Sargeras.... until, in a twist, it's revealed that Hogger planned the whole thing and already resurrected the old gods and summoned the Titans.... Just in time for WoW 2.

For me, Deathwing is a much better fitting end boss than Arthas. I never was a big fan of the Arthas story, and by the time we killed him I was really sick of it. I enjoyed the warcraft books, and especially the war of the ancients trilogy. For me, Deathwing is far more epic than Arthas. I am LOVING the concept of this expansion and to me, it's far better than Wrath ever could have been.

Nozdromu [sp?] In the battle he'll create a void in time that onee toon has to stand in, at the end of the fight that toon is erased from the game, saving the world (of warcraft) giving players a really impressive way to retire their characters.
