Arthas was originally a Paladin which by definition made him a "hero of the light". He may have been a spoiled brat, but he fits the now generic archetype of "do-good'r-turned-mad-by-vengeance\whispers\power" perfectly. He wasn't really a spoiled brat other than being the son of King Terenas, he was just that sad character that wanted to save everyone so badly he was willing to go to the extreme (think solving a hostage situation by nuking them).
