Mastery also doesn't improve hot healing ( riptide or earthliving ) or ES while crit does. While having some mastery might not be so bad if you gave me an equal stat item but one has crit and one has mastery, I'll the crit anyday

Resto mastery has a negative relationship with gear and experience. Meaning, the more you gear and the better you get, the worse the stat becomes. While it may be decent walking into heroics in lvl 333 blues with an inexperienced group, it's an utter waste when dps properly react to encounter mechanics and you get gear to where you aren't letting HP bars get low.
