Zone location determines Living Elements transmute results

This transmute, even when performed in a city, is likely the best use of the shared alchemy cooldown. For a lot of realms, none of the other cooldown-linked transmutes (Truegold, Pyrium Bar, and the pre-Cataclysm stuff) are nearly as profitable as the Living Elements transmute, simply because as a general rule, Volatile Life is always among the cheapest of the volatiles. Transmuting it to just about anything is profitable, or at least not a loss. Now that we can force it, it's going to increase drastically in profitability.
Here's the list of locations and what they proc, taken from a blue post about a hotfix:
Transmute-specced alchemists also enjoy the chance of a double proc; however, the additional volatiles are completely random. You can force the primary proc but not the secondary bonus. Based on the fairly low drop rate from the Electrostatic Condenser, air will be the way to go for a while.

THRALL'S BALLS!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!?!
I did not see that change and now I may have wet myself because of it!!!

People are paying 1000g on my server for the xmute cooldown for truegold. I would say that is where the profit is, at least temporarily.
Sleutel Dec 15th 2010 1:25AM
Yikes, I gotta come by you. Truegold itself was already down to about 2500g on the AH on my server the last time I looked, and that was a couple of days ago.
Jorn86 Dec 15th 2010 4:07AM
Sounds about right. 500-1k g for the transmute, 1k-1.5k g for the volatiles, plus a small markup gets you to 2.5k g for a Truegold.
So I'd say the truegold is more profitable if you can get >500g for it.

Yes. Air. Wonderful, lovely Volatile Airs that become sizzling Electrified Ether. Weeeeeeeeee!
Hyacin Dec 14th 2010 10:03PM
It's only double now? :-(
Didn't it used to be up to 4x?
Tokhand Dec 14th 2010 10:42PM
The transmute mastery proc has always ranged between one additional to three additional whatevers, with more extra whatevers being a much rarer proc.
Sleutel Dec 15th 2010 1:31AM
The understanding has generally been that everything has a chance to proc extras with any Alchemy specialization, including the extras themselves.
So, let's say I make a potion on my Pot-spec Alch.
Potion A has a 15% chance to proc Bonus Potion 1, which has a 15% chance to proc Bonus Potion 2, which has a 15% chance to proc Bonus Potion 3, which has a 15% chance to proc Bonus Potion 4, which has... Well, you get the idea.
The odds that any given potion combine will create...
One potion: 100%
Two potions: 100% * 15% = 15%
Three potions: 100% * 15% * 15% = 2.25%
Four potions: 100% * 15% * 15% * 15% = 0.34%

Being able to determine what kind of volatiles you get is great and all, but this transmute shares a cooldown with the extremely lucrative Truegold transmute. I don't anticipate prices changing dramatically enough to get Alchemists to actually use this.
Sleutel Dec 15th 2010 1:41AM
It really depends on your server. Right now, Truegold is very cheap (relatively speaking) on my Alchemist's server, so an informed person will only pay you a couple hundred gold for your xmute. Changing Lifes into Airs tonight, on the other hand, netted me over 500g.
Jennifer Dec 15th 2010 12:44PM
Exactly, I sold some Truegold for 7k on my server and I can get 2k per transmute without anyone thinking twice. On the other hand, volatiles are selling for 50-60g and Life are the most expensive of all of them.
geoffropuff Dec 15th 2010 1:36AM
with these prices on transmutes, is transmute the best alchemist spec now?
Neyssa Dec 15th 2010 6:51AM
It always was :)
EdiBomb Dec 15th 2010 8:54AM
Volatile air drop should be hotfixed or something. There's no viable way to farm it and its on every single eng recipe i need to make. On top of that, the LW bracer 130 agi bracer enchant uses 2 volatile airs.
Zinn Dec 15th 2010 10:29AM
I managed to get a double proc as Elixir Master. Surely a bug, not that I am complaining.
citrik Dec 15th 2010 12:41PM
I've done this the last four days and I've received 14 twice, 15 once and 16 once and I'm specced transmutation. Pretty weak that it doesn't actually make the full 15 every time.
