Interact with target keybind gets you past players atop NPCs

To set this keybind, bring up World of Warcraft's main Options menu (hitting Escape will bring it up), go to the Key Bindings menu, scroll down to Targeting Functions, and you should be able to find the option easily. You can also set an Interact With Mouseover key bind if you so choose. If you've never customized your key bindings before, be careful about the key you choose to bind to these functions. You don't want to overwrite other crucial keybinds accidentally.
Once your Interact With Target key is set, you no longer need to worry about crowds or mammoths. Just /target who you want to interact with and hit the appropriate key. It will bring up the dialogue prompt, and you're set.

For those that are curious, the range of this ability is also about x3 the follow range, so it's useful in a lot of things.
Erogroth Dec 15th 2010 8:56PM
This came in handy on launch night when everyone was standing on top of the flight training vendor. I also finally got rid of all my baby spice that night :)

It continues to confuse me what makes people think it's a good idea to park a mount on an NPC.
Greater Internet Dickwad Theory wins again, I guess...
Croe Dec 15th 2010 9:02PM
I was introduced to this command while waiting for the launch when everyone was at the flight master. A person I sometimes ran with explained it to me, and I found it to be wonderful.
But was what even more useful was when High Priestess Azil in the Stonecore fell under her throne, and no one could find her, let along click on her.
I got around it by using the /tar command and the interact key.
Well worth remembering if you ever have that happen to you.

Changing mine to "U", so I'll remember it from LOTRO's system.

Kinda sad not many people know this even though it has been around since WotLK has been out. This is also nice for those quests that require you to capture small critters that move twice as fast as your mouse and are impossible to click (i.e. the wolvar daily "Chicken Party!").
BigB Dec 15th 2010 9:13PM
oh wow i didn't know they had introduced this option so long ago. This is definitely going to be super duper helpful when the douchebags that are flagged are sitting on the npcs.
Turlagh Dec 15th 2010 9:18PM
I still think the Blizzard Customer Support people should port jerks on large mounts sitting on presents/mailboxes/NPCs to solo the hardest Bosses in the game on Heroic mode and disable their hearth stones. Jerks!
Nyold Dec 15th 2010 9:53PM
Maybe they can implement a stacking debuff that if you're standing on a mailbox / quest NPC, 1 per second. Once it reaches 100, you get a resurrection sickness type debuff that lowers your stats for 10 hours, and it doesn't decrease if you're not logged on.
Drakkenfyre Dec 15th 2010 11:00PM
But a debuff like that would remove Night Elves dancing on mailboxes!
They just need a "interact with mouse cursor" option, where whatever your mouse cursor is over, if it's highlighting an object, or there is a highlightable object within 5 feet (or whatever range the normal interactable range is) you can hit, and it opens it up like normal. That would get rid of fishing griefers, too.
scherbaddie Dec 15th 2010 11:27PM
Uh.. they have 2 "interact with mouse cursor" options already. You can see one in the article picture, and the other is your right mouse button.

MMO Champion already covered this....over a week ago.
sayling Dec 16th 2010 12:43PM
And yet it still seems to have helped plenty of people here.
I don't read MMO Champion; there are others who don't either. So I am actually grateful when things are brought up here that have been discussed elsewhere.
TL;DR So what? Who cares if it was?
Anathem Dec 15th 2010 10:09PM
I turn name plates on and right click on those. Easy.
Saeadame Dec 15th 2010 11:21PM
Yeah... not very helpful in some situations. I tried to do that in org to find the riding trainer and my entire screen got filled with nameplates because of how many people were there (probably around 200 or so... and just to be dicks some of the griefers were AoEing. Almost everyone lagged like a mofo in that area)
Namssob Dec 15th 2010 10:13PM
Great Tip - surprised it's being reported right now, since it's been around a LONG time (don't know how long, but WAY before Cataclysm). I would guess I've been using this for 6 months maybe?
In the pre-Shattering version of Stormwind, many of us "bankers" would use this to stand outside the Auction house, and "merchant" while standing next to our mailboxes.
Bind /tar Jaxon to a key
Then hit my "Interact with Target" keybind...voila! Access to the AH while standing next to the AH.
(Hint: There is still one place in the game where this is possible - but I'm keeping this location to myself. ;-))
Dameblanche Dec 16th 2010 1:46PM
Aaaaawww... you tease! Please do tell, unless its Booty Bay, which is ofc useless as an Ah, since my glyph alt would be so happy to know this:)
Rai Dec 15th 2010 10:18PM
I approve of the NPCs in the Stormwind Hall of Champions that you physically cannot move over to block them.
NecDW4 Dec 15th 2010 10:24PM
It's also worth nothing that people doing this intentionally CAN be reported legitimately for harassment. Now if only Blizz cared enough to actually pay attention to things like that, maybe we could get a half decent community going.
Saeadame Dec 15th 2010 11:28PM
If enough people report it in a small space of time, it does get looked at... although it took about 9 hours of people sending in tickets on my server for a GM to show up to do something about the griefers standing on top of the riding trainer the night of Cata's release.
