The Queue: More on crowd control

When you don't use crowd control, you make this blood elf I stole from one of Matt Low's column headers cry. You don't want her to cry anymore, do you?
Kirin asked:
Why don't groups consider Mind Control a form of crowd control? Nobody seems to let me do it.
Because they are very, very dense people. I may be biased since I'm a former shadow priest, but I think Mind Control is the single most powerful CC ability in PvE when dealing with Humanoids. Heroic mobs hurt. They hurt a lot. Why wouldn't you want one on your team? It's not just the damage, either. A lot of the mobs you can mind control come with awesome heals or buffs for your party.
Every single group running heroics with a Shadow Priest should be utilizing Mind Control. I'd prioritize it above Polymorph in the crowd control hierarchy.
Randomize asked:
How does the offense win Tol Barad? All I've ever seen are defensive victories.
That's an incredibly good question. The offense needs to cap all of the towers in the zone to win, and I honestly have not seen it happen firsthand. I'm sure it does happen, I've just never seen it. It's far too easy to defend right now, since the defense just needs to hold onto one single tower. Personally, I foresee some hefty balance changes for Tol Barad on the horizon.
chibiwill asked:
As a tank, I'm tired of clicking and putting markers on mobs that way. Do you have a good macro or solution to mark mobs faster?
As a pair of commenters pointed out, you can key bind those markers in your Key Binding options. Most of the tanks I know bind markers to their numpad on the right side of the keyboard.
Helston asked:
Whatever happened to The Daily Blues?
It's back.
Mygirlsguns asked:
should I be sheeping stuff or hitting the keyboard with my face so sparkals kill man for epic loots
How I kill man for loot?

On my world map Kezan and the Lost Isles are the only places left unexplored. Is there any way for me to fix this? It's bothering me.
Allan Dec 15th 2010 11:06AM
same here im very bothered by it. its an OCD thing but i feel messed up in not having them explored.
Eli Dec 15th 2010 11:09AM
Well, Kezan did get blown up by a huge volcano :P Unless exploring a heap of ash is your kinda thing...
Inexorability Dec 15th 2010 11:27AM
I've explored the inside of Icecrown Citadel, the inside of an Old God, and the shattered remains of another world. I'll be damned if I'm going to be foiled by a heap of ash.
Koriael Dec 15th 2010 11:27AM
As far as I know the only way to explore those is to start a goblin. :)
Sarducci Dec 15th 2010 12:22PM
Or build a time machine.

re: Tom.
yes, I am tanking the a mob with my MC'd guy. but, when my MC breaks, I train BOTH mobs on my Priest with high threat. Which often leads me to being a pile of goo. Or worse, panic smashing psychic scream [it's a reflex, when I am in a group/raid, PS is NOT on my cast bar to fight this reflex]
MC as CC was great, especially in BC. But when it 'missed' you died [doesn't happen now]. When it runs out, unless the tank has a taunt or aoe taunt available, You die.
It is a bit like 'vehicle' combat tho. You need to balance the DPS value of the Mob vs. the DPS value of the Spriest vs. the Value of that mob not beating on your tank.
Sheep, freezing trap, shackles, bind elemental, sap are all easier decisions to balance.

That heap of ash has the potential to ground all flights in Azeroth
Skarn Dec 15th 2010 1:22PM
Similarly, is there any way to do the Trials of Archmage Xylem for an Alliance? Those 3 achievements are extremely annoying, since I can't do them! :(

"Well, Kezan did get blown up by a huge volcano "
I still feel that this is an assumption. All we know is that the volcano on Kezan erupted, which caused the evacuation, which results in the Goblins "losing their homeland".
Kezan and the Lost Isles can still potentially become new questing conent for 4.2 or beyond. Heck, it may even end up being the place where we fight Deathwing.

Candina, for instances you can now use Glyph of Psychic Scream which, like Glyph of Fear for warlocks, will let you use your CC ability without worrying about sending your target(s) running all over and aggroing others.
So it's not the "bad habit" ability of the past, with that glyph ;)

@Skarn
I do believe you just fly to his island and enter the portals - I don't think you need the quest in order to do the achievement.
Skarn Dec 15th 2010 3:12PM
Hmm. I went and checked his tower a few days ago, but there wasn't anything to do there, just some NPCs. An island? Off to Wowhead for the research! (I've not gone through the new Azshara as a Horde yet.)
tutti Dec 15th 2010 4:59PM
The portal in question is on the little island northeast of the Darnassian Base Camp in Azshara.
Sadly, it doesn't work for the Alliance at the moment. However, you can still fly directly to each location and do the achievement. If my memory is right, two are along the mountainside of Hyjal, while the third is just ashore on the mainland southeast of the island with the portal.
Suzaku Dec 16th 2010 12:53AM
@Paul: They explicitly stated at Blizzcon that they'd like to revist Kezan at a later point, as Bilgewater Port is just one city on a much larger island, which also includes Undermine, the actual goblin capital city.
I figure they stuck Lost Isles and Kezan on the "Maelstrom continent map" for a good reason, and completely expect more content to be added to that region when we get into the expansion featuring Azshara.

@Candina@WH
Does no one use Fade anymore? It's like the best priest ability ever. When MC breaks, just Fade. The mobs will go straight for... someone else, which is all that matters, right?
Trilynne Dec 15th 2010 11:05AM
Wow, I run with an Spreist all the time, and I NEVER thought to ask her to mind control(I are tank). :o I shall try that next time. ^^ Thank you, queue!
Schadenfreude Dec 15th 2010 11:21AM
Mind control is AMAZING. My friends and I are worried a nerf to it is incoming since it nearly trivializes some heroic pulls.
souvlaki Dec 15th 2010 11:26AM
Reasons for not being used to mind control in instances is that traditionally has been the least reliable CC in game. Or at least this is how i remember it.
Priest - wait guys! let me try this...
(guys)... ooook
Priest - ooops it missed
(guys) ... Dead.
I think this changed in naxx when they removed hit checking in ccs (specially for not requiring priests to have a second equipment with +hit for razovious 25). Correct me if i'm wrong.
Also it doesn't help that only one spec can use this spell. As a tank believe me, you don't want your holy/disc priest to be mc'ing a mob :D
Qot Dec 15th 2010 11:39AM
The problem with mind control is that you're losing one of your DPS to CC. If the mob does something "super amazing OMG!" it's good (MC a mob to get a buff or a mob with very high DPS), but most of the time it means more time with multiple mobs up, leading to healers (like me!) eventually going OOM.
