You know...call me perverted, warped, and evil...but you ever consider that the pact that was made wasn't with Sylvannas, but instead with the Lich King himself? Let's just say what if here. Weird as this may read, suspend all your doubts for just a moment. What if the Lich King (LK for simplicity's sake) made a pact with the Valkyr that turned them into "sleeper" agents of his. With the understanding that should a time arise when they would be in position to resurrect him, then they were to do this however possible; at the cost of their own lives. So now, you have Sylvannas, who is powerful in her own right and tied to the LK in more ways than just one. Suddenly she dies, leaving behind a perfect body (all be it female) for the spirit of the LK to inhabit. As part of the pact, the three Valkyr sacrifice themselves, pulling the LK's spirit from the depths and pushing it into the body of Sylvanas. Remember, she said "I saw only darkness" Or something similar to that. The LK, as he lay dying said "I see only darkness before me..." What if her statement wasn't equating herself to what was going on for the LK, what future he faced; but instead she was relating exactly what the LK has seen for that time up until the point his spirit was resurrected in her body. You want to talk about a story of redemption? Imagine the possibility should the former LK (now LQ if you prefer) rise up in the body of this former servant.Do I think Sylvannas is gone? No not totally. I think there's probably a symbiotic thing going on there, much as there was with Arthas and the original LK in the helmet. (Think Frozen Throne to understand that.) The question is, how much of what we're seeing are remnants of the LK's spirit, and how much of this is Sylvannas herself?

I like this theory. It makes sense is many ways."My beloved val'kyr..." Is that something Sylvanas would say? Does she truly love anything? Does she have the capacity anymore (the quest giver in an old Forsaken questline mentions that the Forsaken in general can only feel strong, negative emotions - vengeance, hatred)? But how could this creature, whatever it is now, be redeemed? What could Arthas hope to accomplish? Ner'zhul has been conquered (Rise of the Lich King), so basically it's just Arthas and Sylvanas occupying her body now (if this theory is true). I don't think Sylvanas would submit to this gracefully...
