Using Renew on non-tanks has another benefit: it keeps your Grace stacks on the tank. If the DPS isn't taking enough damage to be a threat to them, then a Renew can add some padding to their health while allowing you to keep your attention and Grace stacks on the tank.

Also, a glyphed and Borrowed Time-hasted Renew is pretty damn efficient.
