WoW Insider's Weekly Webcomic: Safe Passage
Welcome to another edition of WoW Insider's Weekly Comic, Safe Passage. This comic takes place post-Cataclysm, so there will be minor spoilers.
The faction fight is interrupted by the reason they were all there in the first place. The Shattering has been tough on everyone -- what others have done after has determined their survival. Also, I made quillboar sounds over my guilds' Vent channel all evening to ensure I could create the best quillboar onomatopoeia. I hope that it satisfies even the most discerning of readers.
Check out the full comic right here, and tune in next Tuesday morning for a new page. You can also see all the previous pages in the gallery below.

Awesome comic as usual!
And, @Night Elf who judged those hordies unfairly.....
IN YO' FACE!
Yes, that IS what went through my mind when the Quillboar said that about the caravan and such. I can't help it. >.>

Not to open up this can of worms again, but it's not the Orcs have given Night Elves any reason to trust them, especially after the Cataclysm. Her assumptions were reasonable based on the overall context of the Horde/Alliance war, even if they turned out to be wrong in this particular case.
Anyway, great comic! The Fire Elemental looked awesome. I could really hear that quilboar squeal and snort, too.

/waves hand dismissively
I KNOW all that. Which is why I said 'IN YO' FACE!' That is typically used when someone is shown to be wrong.
Besides, just because your line of thought is understandable doesn't mean it's fair or right. /shrug
But hey, I am a black and white kinda person with my characters. Which is why if given the choice, I would stab Garrosh and Sylvanas with a rusted spork, and slap Varian right across his mug.
Sure, they are shades of gray, but darnit if they don't annoy me and make me want to punch 'em. (Also, just because I dislike a character doesn't mean I don't understand them or appreciate the complexity).
And gyuh, now you made me get all srs bsness when I was just being silly! Why did you have to do that, you horrible person you! D:
roseclown Dec 21st 2010 2:41PM
Aaaand meant that post to sound sillier, but the first bit sounds a bit witchy with a b. Read the first part in a over-dramatic silly voice, that was how it was playing in my head. >.>

I think the important distinction here is that while the Night Elf may have been incorrect in this case, she was not wrong or unjustified in making that assumption.
Given the background of this story, with Garrosh deciding that the entire continent should be horde territory, and brutal attacks on peaceful settlements and supply caravans, this Kaldorei has no reason at all to expect the horde to act any different.
True, there is an honorable side to the horde, but that is not the side being presented to the Night Elves right now.

/sigh
My joke has now become srs bsness. Very well, I yield my /reply zone to a now serious debate about such things.
/tosses up hands
I can never have funny-fluff, can I? CAN I?
/storms off in a over dramatic huff, with a thundercloud crashing above her head and a huge pout

You see? This is why we can't have nice things!
NielsdeJONG Dec 21st 2010 6:30PM
Horde fangirl is being a fangirl XD
But serieusly, I have to agree with the other guys :) You can't call yourself "noble" savages, when your actually invading other people's lands :)
Heck, I remember you talking smug of Varian once, yet not once has the Horde proven him wrong! ^_^
Though I really love this comic :) Hope to see more! ;)

Let's not forget that the Night Elves first reaction to the Orcs back in WC3 is genocide first, ask questions later. Not that Grom would have hesitated himself, but it all boils down to this: everyone kills everyone else when they can.
Synchronizor Dec 21st 2010 8:01PM
Except in that case, the Night Elves were acting in defense, The horde were the ones who showed up, started clearcutting their ancestral forests, and killed Cenarius.
The horde are trying to take Kaldorei lands, simple as that. They were then, they are even more so now.
SquirrelWizard Dec 21st 2010 9:22PM
@thebitterfig
There is a difference between genocide, and trying to evict aggressors from your land. At the first conflict between night elves and orcs. Had the orcs ceased their clearcutting of the lands and retreated, its likely the night elves would have left them alone.
In general...
My biggest complaint with many people is that they tend to judge or make expectation of characters from a position of omnipotence. In that there is information that is made known to the reader, but is not available to the character themselves, and the reader passes judgement on the character based on this information.

I still think the little Draenei girl is adorable. Shaman in the works? I think that the fire elemental is awesome, I could hear the rumble from the elemental just with the hint of it there.
Ametrine Dec 21st 2010 2:43PM
Drawing fire is very tricky. But that elemental was awesomely done.
Accipeter Dec 21st 2010 3:07PM
Woooo! Awesome as usual! Can't wait to see what happens next. I wonder what the night elf is going to say to the orc when it's all over.
The orc warrior and troll shaman pair are quickly becoming my favorite WoW comic characters, and I love the little girls -- spunky human and shy draenei -- both adorable. Well done, Kelly.
The troll makes me wanna try playing a shaman, what with his ghost wolf and fire elemental and cool accent :-)
roseclown Dec 21st 2010 3:32PM
Definitely! The characters are really compelling. Must admit, I am liking this better so far than the last one.
...The adorable kids might've done it. Or the larger presence of a troll character. Either/or.

Should have been a reply above.
Rainee Sue Dec 22nd 2010 12:38PM
The thing is, right now they're in the Barrens -- the ancestral home of the Tauren -- which is under increasing human encroachment. So it's very much a two wrongs making-or-not-making a right issue, at this point. :P
Synchronizor Dec 22nd 2010 2:47PM
Well, first off, the Night Elves aren't invading the Barrens, the humans are. Second, the purpose of the human invasion is to try to the open supply lines to the Night Elves in Stonetalon and Ashenvale, which are both the target of devastating horde invasions.
