Is it possible to tame a Blackwald Fox before leaving Gilneas? There doesn't seem to be a Stable Master and you don't have a second pet slot until 18.

If you can't manage to tame one in Gilneas, there are foxes with the same skin in Loch Modan, and a couple different foxes in Redridge.

As far as red foxes specifically go, there are some in Loch Modan, but the ones in Redridge aren't tameable for whatever reason. After Loch Modan your next chance at a red (specifically) fox is in the mid-thirties in Western Plaguelands.

If you're not set on red, there are both black and brown available in Redridge.

Or you can always just ditch the dog. I didn't like the dog pet for whatever reason, so abandoned it and tamed a fox as soon as I could.

I waited until I got into Darkshore and tamed the Rare Black tiger toward the center of the zone, near the Grim quests.
