That was incredibly sad and moving actually.
aramis Dec 24th 2010 12:20PM
I was touched until the ending... geez, how depressing.
It's 1998's "Bunny" all over again. :(
But that's not to say it wasn't well made. Indeed it was. Now I need to go watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation to make me happy again.
StClair Dec 24th 2010 12:32PM
Yeah, I figured that was what was coming.
("The Little Match Orc", anyone?)
Mapster Dec 24th 2010 5:23PM
I though the exact same thing... kinda expected the last frame to be the little orc frozen to death.
Stephanie Dec 24th 2010 12:43PM
What a visually stunning portrayal of child mortality.
artifex Dec 24th 2010 12:43PM
Poor kid, hallucinating as he froze to death. The game designers really need to give orc kids a warmer-clothing model.
Tim Dec 24th 2010 12:47PM
That's what I thought. That he froze to death. Was sad and moving. Very well made.
Red Viking Dec 24th 2010 12:51PM
This was inspired by The Little Match Girl, wasn't it?
Aarcial Dec 24th 2010 1:34PM
YOU CAN'T KILL THE ORC KIDS NONONONONO. BLIZZARD MADE THEM NONINTERAcTABLE FOR A REASON! BECAUSE THEY'RE CUTE AND SHOULDN'T EVER DIE, JUST THEIR PARENTS!

yep, Little Match Girl. In the original story, it's a little girl who gets left out in the cold after everyone closes her doors to her. She starts striking the matches that she was to sell (to bring home money to her parents), trying to stay warm. With each match, she sees another wondrous sight - christmas trees, presents, feasts, parties. As the match dies, the vision fades. With one of the last matches, the angel of her grandmother appears to her. The little girl tries to light every single match remaining to keep her grandmother with her - but the snow starts to blot out the flames. Instead of fading away, however, the grandmother takes her into her arms and the two rise into the sky together, extremely happy. I always loved the story as a kid.

*sniff* W-what? No... it's... it's just something in my eye, really...
Alassiel Dec 24th 2010 3:21PM
It reminds me very much of the story the little match girl. It's such a sad story, but still somehow heartwarming. I loved that story when I was younger. Even though she dies at the end, it always made me think that somehow things would get better. And when you have a crap childhood, you need that.
That said, I liked this machinima a lot. Quite heartwarming (it's just something in my eye, those aren't tears, I swear. And it's the headcold making me sniffle. Honest.)
Jaq Dec 24th 2010 3:43PM
Yeah, I hear you. Caught a cold myself earlier this week, that's why I'm sniffling, honestly.
Tai Dec 24th 2010 8:39PM
I have a cold too, it's making my eyes tear....
Alassiel Dec 25th 2010 2:41AM
Seems like this cold is REALLY making the rounds...
Watched the video again, this time with the two year old and some other onlookers. The spawnling loved the effects and the music. The no-so-evil wicked stepmonster was crying by the end. Psh. Wimp.
... Yeah. She totally called me on the sniffling from the headcold.
Quasi Dec 24th 2010 4:20PM
Great, 30 year old man crying in front of the computer.
Vixen Dec 24th 2010 11:09PM
...Did you wipe on Magmaw?
Mordok Dec 24th 2010 4:21PM
How profound and moving especially at this time of year. Happy Holidays everyone and hopefully this will help us remember what could be changed with a little caring and love.
Spiritfire Dec 24th 2010 6:32PM
wow, wasn't quite the ending I was expecting since I've never heard of the story it's based on.
It's really dusty in here all of a sudden.
Vixen Dec 24th 2010 11:08PM
My brain hurts now. :/
