Merry Christmas, everyone, from all of us at WoW Insider. It's been an amazing year, and now in the season of giving as we approach a brand new year, I can only give you my thanks. Christmas means a lot to me, not for any reason but that it's wonderful to spend time with family and friends. We all find our own reasons to celebrate this time of year, and for me, Christmas has always been Second Thanksgiving -- I get to revel in the happiness and good will that I've tried to cultivate all year.
Also, Christmas sucks. You know why Christmas sucks? Because my 10-man is all away for the weekend, which means the Omnitron Defense System has to wait. Ugh. I swear, can you guys just forsake your family and friends for the sake of me getting purples? I mean, really. Get in the giving spirit and help me get epics.
How are you guys and gals spending Christmas? What are you most excited about, and have you gotten anyone a really great gift?

Well, I WAS excited to open winter veil presents since my family is not yet awake, but there are none on horde side on many servers or perhaps every server.

IIRC, the presents didn't actually "pop" until around 10am EST last year. I remember getting up early and thinking it was bugged, but they eventually became available later on.
Face Dec 25th 2010 10:19AM
They're up now, but given that the alliance had them while the horde didn't - at least on most servers - I think a bug was more likely. Perhaps it was because the tree had been moved in Orgrimmar...? I don't play much alliance, but I don't believe the IF tree was moved. When doing the WV quests on a new alt this year, I noticed that sometimes the quest turn-in would show up on my mini-map in their old location (for both Great Father Winter and the Smokeywood Pastures folks)... I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

I'm spending Christmas at work. So i haven't received or given any gifts yet. My wife is a big fan of show The Big Bang Theory and she likes hoodies. So i got her the Bazinga hoodie. =) Can't wait to get home.

HO-HO-HO, MORTALS! NOW PERISH IN FLA- ...COOKIES? FOR ME?
Bodewell Dec 25th 2010 9:01AM
Watching my daughter read the letter Santa left in her stocking thanking her for the milk and cookies was my best present this year...along with the Complete Monty Python Collectors edition DVDs (23 all told) that my wonderful wife gave me.....

Everyone has to remember as well, Christmas isnt about Santa or presents. It is about Jesus and his birth. We celebrate it together, so family and friends gather around christmas time. Dont forget that while your partying away :P

Not everyone who celebrates Christmas is Christian though. Some celebrate it as a holiday of giving and reflecting on what you did over the past year. I know that's how I think of it. But let's not get into an argument over religion on Christmas, shall we?
righttothechase Dec 25th 2010 9:04AM
Merry Christmas all!
JB Dec 25th 2010 9:06AM
Merry Christmas to all the Christians, happy holidays to every-one else :)
Darasen Dec 25th 2010 9:06AM
Merry Christmas to WoWinsider WoW.com, WoW joystiq and whatever else you guys have been this year.
henevsarhoe Dec 25th 2010 9:22AM
What, did Fox News buy Joystiq this christmas? No Happy Holidays, Hannukah, or Qwanza to be seen? Well I feel welcomed.

You can join me by the Festivus pole for the Airing of Grievances.
Blizzard clearly celebrates Festivus, since we have Feats of Strength right in the game.
Russell Dec 25th 2010 11:39AM
Happy holidays, whatever those holidays may be.
Ronin Dec 25th 2010 1:16PM
Seeing as how today _is_ Christmas (not Kwanzaa, nor Hanukkah), how about we give the political-correctness a rest and just recognize that people are going to wish us a Merry Christmas? Do you really have to take offense at that? Are you going to chide people for wishing you a Happy New Year next week?
henevsarhoe Dec 25th 2010 2:02PM
Woooah there. I wasn't talking about Blizzard and I'm not offended. It's not even political correctness. I was just saying it'd be nice to be thought of by the staff. Blizzard have winter veil instead of Christmas cause its nice for everyone to share in something, and not have a chunk of your base not be outsiders to all the merriment. A thought shared by the Happy Holidays in the comments here, but not in the post. Russell (and others) is good people.
Ronin Dec 25th 2010 2:15PM
It's the very _definition_ of PC. You're insisting that a holiday that almost everyone celebrates has to be referred to idiomatically-- because it has Christian roots-- so that it "includes" everyone. Except that it has the very real effect of _excluding_ those whose celebration it is-- but that's OK, because it's just Christians.
You ARE being thought of by "the staff". The staff wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. You got upset because it wasn't expressed in the formula you prefer, rather than appreciating the thought behind it.

Have a happy día en que se festeja el nacimiento del Sol invicto everyone!
