The Queue: Repeat Christmas header

I don't care that we used this header last year. An orc in a Santa hat -- it's the best.
Sanctis asked:
I got an Amazon Kindle for Christmas (I will now read a "book" for the first time in 3 years). What Warcraft books do you recommend for me to start with? I haven't read any of them.
Start with The Shattering! It serves as an introduction to Cataclysm, and we gave it a pretty darn favorable review. If you've been playing Cataclysm and thinking, "Hey, why exactly is Magni Bronzebeard dead and Garrosh Hellscream the new Warchief?" then The Shattering can help fill in those blanks.
Dvyvin asked:
Is there any lore background given why Thrall is the only one holding up the world?
He actually isn't! There are powerful shaman like Muln Earthfury and Nobundo at the Maelstrom as well. They're just on different rock pillars. You seem them during a Twilight Highlands cinematic.
Tanglebones asked:
Is it okay to use a staff (I'm looking at you, Staff of Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan) as a caster shaman? Do caster shamans benefit from the armor on their shields?
Mace/dagger plus shield/offhand is pretty much the way to go for elemental shaman, because staffs have a lower total item level budget than a mainhand/offhand combo. Plus, there's a +100 intellect enchant for offhands and shields now, and you can't really make that up with a staff. Lastly, the extra armor from a shield can definitely help in an emergency situation when caught in a Boooonestoooorm or something like that.
That said, using a staff is fine as a stopgap measure, especially if the staff has better total stats than the lower iLvl mainhand/offhand combo you're currently using. Just use your head.
Ca9je asked:
Is there a way to avoid the lack of choices with your characters anymore? Three talents now, you can't be a hybrid of two, and you will find that only after avoiding all PvP talents you have completed the talent tree with no where else to spend your talents in it. Rotations are therefore not changeable, as with everybody having the same talents, there will always be one that works the best. How do I gain freedom with my class?
You're looking at this from the wrong angle. There was always a "right" talent distribution, and not speccing that way was just handicapping your character. Rotations were never really changeable -- not if you wanted to be an effective player. And being a two-tree hybrid usually just meant taking advantage of a gimmick that Blizzard hadn't fixed yet.
What Blizzard has essentially done is made all of your DPS talents obvious and attainable. When you're done filling in those talents, you have points left over. This is intentional. All of the remaining talents are where you gain freedom, not lose it. Give yourself a little survivability boost. Improve your mana regen for long fights. Become more effective on add fights. It's up to you.
Stop thinking about the remaining utility talents as "PvP talents." It's an outdated view. Those points don't have anywhere else to go; you're not missing out on some important DPS talent by picking them up with leftover points. You're just making yourself more effective in a pinch.

I doubt it. Not while Blizzard wants to define RealID friends as people you know from outside Warcraft (in which case you can just text them).
The only RealID friend I have is a guy I met in WoW who left my guild. All my RL friends that play WoW can text me or know my alts and my guildies know my alts.

the closest thing ive heard like that, and i havent actually seen it, but if you subscribe to the mobile AH service for your phone, i believe you can chat with your guildies, and essentially be in guild chat from your phone

There is a typo in the third paragraph of the second response. It should read:
"That said, using a staff is fine..."
It currently refers to using a shield. Doesn't make sense based on the tone of the response.

I think you are misunderstanding. I am disappoint.

I just want to say that I really appreciated the answer to the last question. I suddenly feel very liberated about my last few talent points, whereas I had been worried about putting them in the 'wrong' talent; assuming there was some complicated math behind one of the utility talents that would make it critical in a way I wasn't seeing. Thank you, Michael!

Unfortunately, it's only dps that get the luxury of spending "fluff" talent points. Every healer class can spend all their points on talents that make them heal for more or for longer. Seeing some of the talents dps get to spend make me jealous. :\

Hi, my name is Archangel spec, and I'm here to beg to differ.

There's not really much choice for hunters either. As BM I have two points I can choose to spend in Mend Pet or Spirit Bond, but all the "overlapping" points I spend in raw DPS talents. (With Go for the Throat and Sic 'em! being talents that actually should belong in the BM tree even as they're boosting pet DPS significantly, so I really cannot skip them.)

Has Blizzard ever though about splitting the battlegrounds into groups, for example group Warsong Gulch and Twin Peaks into a group called Capture the Flag. This would cut down the que time due to reduced battleground choices, but it would still allow you to get all of the battlegrounds we have today in game.

And what if someone wanted only WSG for rep, or TP for achievements?

Question: what raid shoul casual/ raiding guilds start with in terms of easiness and gear?
Ice Dec 26th 2010 7:51PM
Generally most killed ones are Omntron defense system(blackwing) and Conclaive of winds(uldum raid). We killed Defense system first day but I found Conclaive easier but we couldnt spend too much time on it.
That said, they are both kinda hard still. If your guildies are FOCUSED they are simple.
Dont give up either, you cant overgear progress content.
Oh and do I even need to mention Voa 2.0 aka baradin hold? Easier than others of course.

I'm looking to add a Goblin to my clan and can't decide between BM Hunter or Disc/Shadow Priest - any preferences for one over the other on Goblins?
Billlop Dec 26th 2010 4:30PM
If your going BM then go Orc. That 5% extra damage is a GODSEND for BM hunters. Goblins make good mages
Vogie Dec 26th 2010 5:49PM
The only reason you'd want your Goblin to be a hunter is for extreme soloing, where potions and a portabank are handy. A BM hunter gets more out of crit then from haste.
Otherwise, pick classes that get the most out of both Rocket belt and nice alchemy - Like Priests for instance. They don't have movement speed abilities before 83 and are very gear-Dependant for mana & regen; they use both nukes & Over Time spells, so Haste is nice. Warlocks would come up next, as they also have no Movement boosts before improved run away at 78... however, they don't need potions at all.
ZeroDesu Dec 27th 2010 5:25AM
My Goblin is an Elemental Shaman, and I'm pretty happy with that choice.
Warhead Dec 26th 2010 4:19PM
I have to disagree about there always having been a "right" talent point distribution. Perhaps a caveat of "to maximize raid benefit" would be appropriate. For players who don't raid much or at all, hybrid specs could be appealing as they would afford more flexibility for solo or 5-man content, particularly before the debut of dual specialization. Far from handicapping your character, they could let you tackle things you couldn't have in a "pure" spec.
Lissanna Dec 26th 2010 4:56PM
In Cataclysm's version of 5-man dungeons, the difficulty has been raised to the point where you still want to min-max enough so that you are actually useful to your group. With dual-specs available, there's no real point to having a hybrid build anymore, because it just leaves you gimpy at every role.
Robertus Maximus Dec 26th 2010 6:04PM
Instead of plying your way, now you have to play THEIR way.
Still not a fan of the revamped talent trees. Reducing choice wasn't the way to fix interesting specs they hadn't foreseen.
Eldoron Dec 26th 2010 9:18PM
Rob, it was always "THEIR" way. Have you played during Wrath? Same thing. BC? Same thing. You spent 71 points and still you were not free at all. Now you still might not be but it's only 36 points (or whatever)
