Breakfast Topic: What's a deal-breaker in your love for a particular race?
When word of the Cataclysm races came out, I admit I was excited about the worgen. I had once played a werewolf character in a game of D&D, and it amused me at the idea I could recreate her in some aspect within WoW. Then the dances were released. At first I was undeterred; I play my gender, so the male dance didn't bother me much. However, things changed when the female dance was finally released on the internet. I was quite displeased at the choice for the female's dance. It was too much; I decided then and there that I wouldn't roll a worgen, purely because of the dance.
I know it sounds petty, but the racial dances are a bit of a deal-breaker for me. When I was first introduced to WoW by my cousin and friends, I looked up the racial dances to see which ones I liked best. Having only a trial account, I went with tauren as my first choice, as all my friends played Horde, and I thought the Electric Slide wasn't a bad dance, trolls being a close second.
What about you? What sort of thing about a race or faction breaks the deal, causing you not to choose them?

I've never been able to play either Orcs or Humans. I don't know why. They're just both kind of bland.

But these days Orcs are one of the least-played races. Being "bland" is particularly the reason for the near extinction of the horde races that aren't Blood Elves and Goblins.

Orcs are the only Horde race I don't play. I particularly love Trolls. I have a Troll Warlock and Shaman, a Blood Elf Paladin, A Tauren Druid, and an Undead Preist and a Goblin Hunter. I just can't get into Orcs.

I myself really love the lore begging the Orc Shamans, but I CAN'T stand with the Orc Model. For me my true love in the Horde are the Undead, and then the Belfs.

I never really had a "deal breaker" for races. I always felt I would like to try one of each. I thought when worgens came out I might eventually race change my human mage or human lock to worgen. Until I played one. The males aren't so bad but the females laugh is so beyond stupid it's not even funny. Also their flip is disappointing as well. I don't think either of these will keep me from playing my toon but it will definitely keep me from rolling another. Haven't played the goblin yet but I am looking forward to that at some point.

I like Worgen, don't get me wrong. But I could never play one for a prolonged period of time, what with their permanent case of the sniffles.
Other than that, the racial voices can get on my nerves or make me love the race. Male Trolls and Dwarves are some of my favorite race/gender combos just because of the voice acting and emotes, whereas the male Draenei just sounds silly to me. And don't even get me started on the Goblin voices...

Heh... while I'm a total Hordie, I must admit that I can never listen to a male Dwarf laugh without laughing myself

I was really excited about playing a Worgen, particularly because I had some RL friends who play Alliance on a different server, and paying for a server change AND a faction change for my three characters would be a bit much. That said, I just can't take the worgen walking/running animation. My Worgen is not yet 20, so I can't say anything about the Running Wild ability, but they look so goofy and lopsided when they're just running around.
Though I find that I really don't mind the sniffing. It just fades into the background for me; I can understand why some don't like it, but it just doesn't bother me.

Not too mention that when they laugh they sound like a real husky chicken with a cold. I played my Worgen Lock to 25 and went back to my mains.

I really wanted to like the Worgen, but the running motion makes me seasick, the constant hunching over, and two-handers protruding through the stiff capes, make it a no go after lvl 14.
I play almost all Alliance, but have to admit ... Goblins are a absolute hoot !
( I'm now the proud owner of 2, a male hunter ... because male Goblin just look wrong in a dress, and a sweet female warlock )

Humans run like they have a shaft firmly placed up their butts.

It's for posture. We've seen what's happened to tauren necks and troll spines.

My deal breaker are the idle animations. In particular the female Night Elf...
Why? Why? WHY did they take the strong, confident Night Elven female and turn her into Barbie the bouncing bimbo, why on the titan's green Azeroth would a women just stand there and 'bounce' if she's not in a wet T-shirt contest?
I have never been able to get past level 20 on either male or female night elves specifically because of the animation.
And don't even get me started on female gnomes and the pink pony puff hairstyle *shudder*
awitelintsta Dec 27th 2010 9:26AM
This. 100% this. The bouncing is just so unnecessary.
Ryvers Dec 27th 2010 11:10AM
I remember back when Sylvannas had a night elf model, and I would be running quests for her and Veremathras... It just seemed so wrong when she would be talking about the domination of the Forsaken and the death of the living... then bounce idly.
Wulfhound Dec 27th 2010 11:24AM
I have to admit, the male casting animation is the worst in the game, could never get past level 15 on a druid. So as long as I didn't roll anything that cast as a male, I was gold.
And as for the bouncy bouncy, you all need to sossh, its fun and shows that there not the hard ass's we have come to believe.
erknost Dec 27th 2010 12:25PM
Maybe I'm just a... well a guys, but I particularly like bouncing.
Noyou Dec 27th 2010 12:50PM
I agree on the bounce. I love it. It never gets old for me. The worgen sniffing and the male night elf shoulder roll/twitchy thing is bad. The one thing you are missing about the female night elf bounce is it's clearly meant as a distraction to the opposing faction. ;)
LynMars Dec 27th 2010 1:46PM
Same with unable to play Night Elves (and I play mostly female characters); the idle animations and emotes for what's supposed to be a race that shocked the Orcs with how feral and ferocious they are, stoic and serious after long millennia...Have you seen their /clap emotes? Then the bounce idle, it just drives me insane. The stripper dance (yes, I know the actual influence, but still) is also a turn off. Because they were the only Elves at the start of WoW, they got stuck with the "have to be stereotypically cute and sexy!" crap despite the awesome lore surrounding them. Blood Elves didn't make that better.
I also can't stand the rendering for their hands, either gender; it just seems -really- bad compared to a lot of others, unless in long sleeves and gloves all the time.
snuf42 Dec 27th 2010 4:59PM
I always thought the bouncing was not sexy but more "Hurry up and pull, I have to pee!"
