Breakfast Topic: What's a deal-breaker in your love for a particular race?
When word of the Cataclysm races came out, I admit I was excited about the worgen. I had once played a werewolf character in a game of D&D, and it amused me at the idea I could recreate her in some aspect within WoW. Then the dances were released. At first I was undeterred; I play my gender, so the male dance didn't bother me much. However, things changed when the female dance was finally released on the internet. I was quite displeased at the choice for the female's dance. It was too much; I decided then and there that I wouldn't roll a worgen, purely because of the dance.
I know it sounds petty, but the racial dances are a bit of a deal-breaker for me. When I was first introduced to WoW by my cousin and friends, I looked up the racial dances to see which ones I liked best. Having only a trial account, I went with tauren as my first choice, as all my friends played Horde, and I thought the Electric Slide wasn't a bad dance, trolls being a close second.
What about you? What sort of thing about a race or faction breaks the deal, causing you not to choose them?

I didn't roll a worgen because of the constant sniffing, weird accent, noises they do when hit, etc. If I were rolling a feral druid, I would roll a worgen for sure, but I don't like getting so close to stuff that I kill, pillage and brag about it.

I regret that my main is a male gnome, because of the voice. "Not enough ma-na!" Oh, go punt yourself.
Necromann Dec 27th 2010 10:27AM
The first toon I rolled, and still my main, is an Undead. I just loved the idea of a playing a walking corpse apealed to me and when I learned that we could eat bodies to regenerate, that closed the idea and I rolled an undead.

I love orcs for the lore and draenei ladies for the looks. Trolls also look wickedly cool and being able to roll voodoo troll was the best addition in all pre-cata tbh.
I'm a sad altholic that wants to roll every single race-class combo. Everything except gnomes. No mercy for the short.

For me it's all about the battle animations. If the casting of fireball doesn't look absolutely bad-ass or the swing of an axe doesn't look lethal enough then I want no part in that character. I'm going to be in combat with that character for a good portion of my play-time--if I don't like how it fights, why bother?

Can't play orcs as casters because they cast left handed and it just doesn't feel right.
Pyromelter Dec 27th 2010 4:00PM
My shaman is an orc, and I know what you mean. I've got an orc warrior, and his animations are pretty cool. But it just seems weird how orcs cast spells.

I have a draenei female whose idle animation annoys me. She looks like she is getting ready to cross a busy street. The males however are deal breakers. I don't like their running animation, the laugh, or their sheer size. It's the same reason I can't play a tauren.
My main toons are all horde and all female. The only race I don't have are undead or tauren. The deal breaker on the undead for me is Sylvanus. I played one for a bit through BC and was highly suspicious of all the plague formulas the apothecaries were sending us to get reagents for and to test on live subjects. After the wrathgate I deleted all of my undead toons.

My deal breaker is Warcraft 3, and it's xpac The Frozen Throne. I still play that way more than I will WoW. The race that interests me the most from that has been, and still is the Blood Elves.Their addiction to magic, and the struggle to break free of it (it's pretty much their curse). I personally don't care about the rest of the Horde (we are only Allies for necessatie), and I'm curious why nothing more has been done with them. They've been non-existent since, well, when they came out. And personally, that concerns me. Oh, I did make a Worgen Death Knight and loving the curse they have to deal with.

There are a lot of the races I won't play. Silly reasons, sure, but if I've got to look at a toon for as long as it takes to level it to max, I have to like the way it looks. I won't play:
- Troll males: Can't stand the feet.
- Draenei males: Hooves. And squids on their faces. The females aren't that bad but I still don't like hooves on anything but Tauren.
- Human males: My first main was a human male. But they all look like they have harelips, and their wrists are bigger around than their forearms. Human male casters especially bug me--they look like professional wrestlers in drag.
- Gnome males: Ugh. Big ears and noses, and the voice. The females are cute, though.
- Orc males: They look impressive in full armor, but I just don't like the overgrown steroidal monster look.
My favorite race is Blood Elf male. Almost all my toons are this race, because they're well proportioned and look great in almost everything. I also like Forsaken males, though I wish their spines wouldn't poke through everything and we could have the option to allow them to wear their clothes without having them look like they came out of a ragbag.
Oh, and put me down for hating the stupid Night Elf female "bounce" thing too. I like the way NE females look, but man...that bounce is irritating.
Brett Porter Dec 27th 2010 10:58AM
I just re-rolled my Alliance mage, and decided to go with a new race/class combo of Night Elf. I hate the bouncing breasts of the female, and the casting animation of the male. I ended up going male, choosing the lesser of two evils. I just can't play the female night elf because of the idle animation.

Oddly enough, faction ambiance is the deal-breaker for me. I never thought this would have such a huge effect until I race changed my three-year-old, heavily-played Draenei to a Troll. I was Horde for about a month until I couldn't stand all the spikes and meat everywhere. I know a lot of people like the horde for exactly that reason, and I appreciate and respect that; but I just can't do it. There's not enough variation or personality in that for me.
My distaste for it has become a huge joke amongst my friends, who are all die-hard Hordies. "What faction are you?" "SPIKES 'N MEAT!"
Gozzix Goldgear Dec 27th 2010 4:28PM
It's either that or bricks and lion symbols.
Tirrimas Dec 27th 2010 11:23AM
Nelfs. Ugh. I just...can't. The women are attractive enough, but The Bounce. Gods. The men are just ugly. They walk like they're trying to hold sparkles in or something. The casting animation. Yuck.
I can't play a Draenei, either. The men prance and the women have serious chiropractic issues.
Humans are far less irritating to me. Dwarves are kind of...stone-faced, pardon the pun. Gnome DKs are too adorable for words and I'll probably make one someday. I'm enjoying my Worgen mage so far, though I'm really wanting to stack haste to shorten her flailing casting animation.
Horde-side, I can't play a female Belf. Too skinny and Barbie-like. I'm also having trouble with my Forsaken now, because of recent developments with her Queen.
Brock Dec 27th 2010 11:23AM
If trolls wore shoes I would play one. Their feet are nasty looking. If Orcs could have black or brown skin like the maghar or dragonmaw I would play one. If Tauren had the taunka face I would play one.
Jack Kelly Dec 27th 2010 11:27AM
I like the Worgen but had to stop playing my Priest because of the flailing arms casting animation. That and the way the cloak stiffly sticks out.
I can deal with the occasional sniffle.
RetPallyJil Dec 27th 2010 11:42AM
Whether or not they are irredeemably corrupted by the fetid darkness seething in their souls or not.
Which leaves every race open except the Forsaken. Sorry, guys!
agregson1 Dec 27th 2010 11:48AM
I played a ton of Warcraft and Warcraft II in college. To me, the Orcs are the only true Horde.
Xot Dec 27th 2010 11:48AM
Undead Male - something about seeing their leg bones constantly that I just cant get passed. Althought I get the biggest kick out of their dance.
Drenai Male - I dont know for sure their casting I guess and probably the way they look in general. I started several and couldnt keep them going until my Shaman; I had no choice but to level a Drenai if I wanted an Ali Shaman. I'm considering a race change to Dawrf but I have never really leveled a Dawrf either.
Worgen Female - I have one of these at about level 30 and the laugh is terrible, it's almost embarrassing.
B-Elf Male - their jump, lol, well it sucks.
These are not really deal breakers the only real deal breaker is the Female Troll omfg ugly. Sorry cant do it.
Mostly I judge on the casting or melee motions so most of them would be fine although my 80+ level toons are 2-Human, 1-Drenai, 2-Night Elfs & 70+ Levels are 1-Blood Elf, 1-Troll.
Matthew Dec 27th 2010 11:52AM
I picked my undead because I liked the female liquid dancing.
I will not roll an undead male because I don't like their hair their posture their faces or their dance.
