Would you rather go back to the days when we had more free-reign over our talents and abilities but had to rely on websites like Elitist Jerks to tell us what the best specs, talents, rotations, gear and enchants were in order to optimize our class? They're only 'holding our hands' because they've realized that:A. There are a LOT of complicated variables that the average player wouldn't understand. That's why they simplified the stats system and added the 'newbie' tooltips.B. If they give us too much free reign with not much direction, the theorycrafters and number crunchers will ALWAYS find the optimal way to play.I think Blizzard has found a nice balance between guiding us so we know how to effectively play our classes, and giving us enough free reign so we have some customization as to how we play our individual toons (through less rigid talents and the improved glyph system). Also, giving each spec a set direction greatly helps with the devs ability to balance and fix a class. We don't want to go back to the days where specs like sub rogues and BM hunters had no place in groups because they didn't have any direction on how to play them in a competitive raiding environment.
