As with so many great songs from theater, I first truly fell in love with Mr. Cellophane when it was performed by Kurt Hummel. I was especially grateful for my Glee-based education when I was sent Cellophane: A Rogue Story. It's the sad story of a rogue who doesn't get much attention, so he ultimately goes on a killing spree. I think we've all been there.
This video is from the writer of Tastes like Battle Chicken as her first attempt at machinima. It's a pretty good first outing, in my opinion. I was actually surprised by how well the lyrics to Mr. Cellophane do work for a rogue story, so this song was an inspired choice. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at machinima@wow.com.
I remember loving this song the first time I heard it in "Chigaco" (sorry all you Glee fans, I'm a purist. And this is from the Chigaco soundtrack anyhow.)
That said, I think it is an excellent choice for a rogue story; and I like how in this, the gnome finally snaps after being like a sheet of cellophane for so long. As a first showing, this is quite well done imo. Hope to see more!
The machinema is good for a first attempt, whenever I caught myself tweaking at the choppiness I reminded myself it was a first attempt and I frequently tolerate worse machinema on the basis of story alone.
Which brings me to my main point: am I the only one to find the story cliche? A gnome being ignored by large quantities of non-gnomes, especially the women folk. I've always felt gnomes get the raw end of the race deal. I don't know why they are treated like throw away dime store kittens (or more accurately feeder mice).
You know what I want to see? A gnome machinema where the gnome kicks butt and it isn't because they are sad about being rejected for being a gnome.
I actually worried about it being cliche: overlooked guy goes on a rampage and then regrets it, but I couldn't ignore Cellophane and rogue together.
The gnome thing had nothing to do with anything, at least from the creation standpoint. The reason he's a gnome is because my husband's rogue is a gnome, and it was the only high-level rogue I had access to. It could have just as easily been a night elf or a worgen or a human (for the Alliance!).
Thanks for posting this; I never EVER thought I'd see anything I created on WoW Moviewatch, least of all my first try.
I saw Chicago on Broadway, and it is cemented as my favorite musical. I loved that the movie was true to the spirit of the original, and while watching the movie on TV the other day, I was struck by this idea that a rogue would be a great fit for Mr. Cellophane. The rest is poorly constructed history. :-P
No reason in particular. I went with Night Elf for his love interest because I play one--I used my husband's rogue so it made sense to me.
As for the human females, I put out a call to my friends to bring their female alts to the bar to ignore me. Most of them brought bank alts who bank from Stormwind, so it stands to reason that they would be human.

Psycho Gnome!!! Love it! Good first outing. Gratz!
For some reason, I was expecting him to turn into an undead rogue at the end (went to the evil side and all)... lol

Fair play on the Gnome thing, but then my question becomes why pick only human and night elf females?
I didn't mention it in my original post, but the music matches the story and the character - and the pacing is spot on.

Fair enough on the availability bit, but then my question becomes why only night elf and human females?
I agree though that pairing of class and music works.
