Healing priest here. The best advice I can give is to ask questions if you're unfamiliar with a boss encounter. The worst pug groups I'm in are ones where a tank rushes through the instance assuming everyone knows the fights. Then the DPS dont know what to do and mess up. And then one wipe and everybody leaves. You can't run heroics on auto-pilot any more. Dying isn't the end of the world either, all the cata dungeons have teleporters to get around, making post-wipe runs mercifully short.Oh yeah and: click the dang lightwell!

Exactly. Also different groups have different methods of dealing with an encounter. I was kicked from a group today because the tank said "I was a bad mage who didn't know the fight" when I was following the advice from a video. I love it when the someone explains the encounter before the fight because I may have only done it once and don't quite have everything down. It only takes a few seconds to explain things, much better than running back and paying the repair bill.
