What is with all these posts implying insults to modern music? There is plenty, *plenty* of excellent music made since 1990. Just as there was plenty of schlock made prior.

Because the more modern music is, the more it (in general) caters to a younger crowd with poor taste. Verging on tweens choosing who is successful, rather than when it catered to a post-teen population. Sure there were bubblegum bands then and now, but the trend towards flashy videos, and the cult of the celebtrity and away from complex melodies lyrics and harmonies is why people think, in general, that modern music is worse.
In general.
