Breakfast Topic: What do you nibble on at raid time?
This Breakfast Topic has been brought to you by Seed, the Aol guest writer program that brings your words to WoW Insider's pages.
We've all been there, scrambling about 3 minutes before raid to buy or make our consumables before the raid leader goes into convulsions.
But what of the real you? Personally, I have a whole separate collection of consumables sitting at my computer desk for the duration of every raid, with a particular preference for pizza bagels, if not the timeless classic Hot Pockets, as well as a tall cup of "raid coffee" with a delicious white chocolate caramel creamer (something my GM loves to give me grief about). Nothing gets a boss down faster than a well fed player, virtual or physical, I always say!
What sort of real-life consumables do you gather before a raid? Do you prepare your very own feast, or do you run off to get fast food?

When I do start raiding, my food of choice will likely be fig bars - high-calorie, but they've been brain food for me since I was in high school.
Not thrilling, I know, but I do my best to avoid junk food, and sitting down to a raid with really unhealthy food in front of me sounds like a great way to counteract an entire week's worth of workouts at once. ^_^

Exactly. Couldn't have said it better myself. If I'm going to be sitting on my behind for a couple of hours I'm damn sure not going to make it increase by stuffing myself full of crap food and sugar drinks.

Oh god yes. If I'm gonna be sedimentary for 4 hours (not good for you!) I'm not gonna shovel tasty cakes into my mouth (really not good!). I usually have a pint or so of juice between raid start and finish, if anything.

@henevsarhoe - I think you mean sedentary. Sedimentary is what you would probably become AFTER too many raids with junk food. :-)

Almonds, String Cheese, Water.

Ditto. Good choice, sir. Here's to low carb.

For some reason, I'm never hungry until the middle of the raid (of course), so it's usually just candy or chocolate or whatever I have lying around nearby to try to avoid a long AFK.

Cigarettes, beer and a sense of perspective

Usually my raids are right after I finish eating dinner, so I might have a soda handy.
Jinx Jan 4th 2011 8:12AM
Just remember that you ought to focus on raiding and not eating...
"sorry guys my cinnamon bun got all my hands sticky and cant use my keyboard lulz"
The most I have is a can of soda Maybe a hot cup of tea on cold days.
Your actual dinner should come before or after and not during the raid, please. :/

That creamer sounds awesome... I'm a big Jack and Coke / beer fan... I feel that if we take too long to get our raid progressing then it's ok for my performance to decrease :)

I generally don't eat during raids, but I was in a guild once where the raid leader would eat carrots while talking and it made me want to do unspeakable things to him.
Josin Jan 4th 2011 9:49AM
What's up, Doc?
Daisyfizzi Jan 4th 2011 8:17AM
Cups of tea or coffee, depending what sort of mood I'm in and biscuits if I've been baking. As a general rule I don't eat whilst raiding though. I try and eat dinner before we raid, but if I'm running late I have been known to heat up some homemade soup in a mug. It freezes really well and is a lifesaver when I'm short on time.

Yes! Big awesome cup of tea ftw!
Nefaria Jan 4th 2011 8:17AM
I always make sure to have a Manhattan on hand. Or Ayinger Celebrator beer, it's my raid beer of choice.
Prelimar Jan 4th 2011 9:58AM
manhattans FTW!

During the week I usually get fruit and juice - I have to be up for work everyday at 6am so I try not to mess up much with my daily diet...
... But Friday will always be pizza/heineken day and can't be without chinese crispy duck on Saturday nigh...
Dh0n0vh4n Jan 4th 2011 1:09PM
Heineken FTW
Isen Jan 4th 2011 8:17AM
2L of Sprite/7up (Lemon-Lime is king), and carrots, broccoli or cashews.
