The Queue: Snow on GM Island
Did you know it's snowing outside?
And did you know that back in the 40s, it was possible to spontaneously break out in song? I didn't, but apparently it happened on every train ride Bing Crosby was on.
True story.
Gundehar asked:
Sometimes when I'm over the Trade District, Old Town, or Dwarven District of Stormwind, I hear an explosion but see no visual signs of it (aside from screen shaking if I'm on the ground). Other people in my guild have heard them too, but no one has seen anything related to it. What is the cause of these mysterious explosions?
It's likely a plane that takes you to the Twilight Highands as part of the opening quests for the zone. Thanks to MW in the comments for pointing this out.
Musicchan asked:
I recently got a Kindle and was excited at the chance to subscribe to the WoW Insider blog, only to find out it's not available to Canadians. Is there any hope in the future of international folks like me being able to subscribe to your blog feed?
I'll ask around about it once people start getting back into the office this week, but there are likely some legal restrictions on it. These might seem silly to us, just like the ones that prevent us from holding contests for parts of Canada, but such is life -- ultimately, it's out of our control.
Sarku asked:
The other day, I was flying around in Feralas, and to the north of Dire Maul there was a weird island with a random assortment of NPCs who had developer names. Was this the original location of the GM island?
I'm not entirely sure where that area is you're talking about now, but I'm sure it's not GM Island. GM Island was to the north and west of the night elf starting zone. You can read more about GM Island in a piece I wrote a while ago.

Mep, how dare you say anything remotely cryptic in the first comment of the section? You know Wow Insider readers are not famous for their sense of whimsy.
Mep Jan 4th 2011 1:35PM
or their pleasant odors :)

Are they famous for anything?
Ganatola Jan 4th 2011 6:00PM
@ddbrown89
They are famous for being distracted by various, fuzzy creatures; famous for succumbing to the urge to punch a certain dragon in the face; and famous for embarrassing posts that sound much more intelligent in their mind than on the Internet.

Time for you to buy a watch?
Wait, wrong comment, sorry.

Weird island with NPC's with developer names?
As someone who is interested in all the hidden little things, and have researched and been to many of them, this sounds interesting. I must find out more about it.
It must be new. I have never heard of it before. Unless this person was mistaken about developer names.
CaryEverett Jan 4th 2011 11:12AM
From what I understand it is old, but it basically required extensive wall climbing to get to. I discovered it by accident a few days ago when I flew past it while working on Archelogy, and I immediately punched the lake's name into google.
What came up on wowwiki? "This island seems to serve no purpose other than making people come to this wikipage"
I lawl'd.
Neodarkmatter Jan 4th 2011 11:13AM
I do believe he is talking about the island marked here:

Drakkenfyre Jan 4th 2011 11:21AM
That's odd. I know most of the hidden areas in the game, even the obscure ones. Unless I have read about it before, and forgot about it, I have never heard of it. It might be an area I have heard about it before, but the description of it is different than I have read.

Replied before seeing the last comment.
Thanks for the map Neo. I have seen that island on maps before, but didn't realize it had special-named NPC's on it before.
DuceWild Jan 4th 2011 11:25AM
@Neo That is the island. I have seen it too. I was confused as well.
Caz Jan 4th 2011 11:26AM
It's a new place, and did not exist prior to the Shattering. My priest has used levitate to explore pretty much everywhere, and this space previously was a dusty basin that looked like Desolace.
The island and the lake are visible on the continent map. There's a burning tower, and an odd assortment of NPCs, some of which are surveying. None of them say anything or have any interaction capability.
